Since this ending really sucks I'm gonna write my own. He saw her, called her name, she turned around and smiled seeing him. He run to hug her and said he would never let her leave his life again. She smiled with tears in her eyes agreeing with him, they kissed. End.

I learn my lesson, during next time whenever i wached any historical drama first i will watch last episode, so i will not waste time to watch the whole drama to see the suck ending

It's a happy ending!!! despite how sucky it was shown. She came back specifically after 3yrs, she had a peaceful satisfied look on her face everytime she heard the story of what the ml did, she responded with happiness when she heard someone call out 'your majesty'. She had a happy trepidation look when she saw the back of the ml next to the horse carriage. They will get together when she let him find her and giving the pendant was the first sign "I'm here".

Its based as a historical drama -not all historical dramas have a happy endings -I accept this for what this is a beautifully rendered story with an opened ended ending could lead to endless possibilities left to our imagination. .I enjoyed every minute of it right to the end.

很好看的劇集，雖然開放式結局，令觀眾覺得遺憾，不開心，但是當元娘聽到百姓說皇上已還韓家軍清白，判罪王承相，而且仍然單身，元娘就面露喜悅，然後把信物送給皇上認識的老闆，就是讓皇上知道她回到京城，給機會皇上找她，結尾雖然沒有讓我們看到她們重遇再聚，相信這是必然的結果，皇上對元娘那麼深情，一定盡力找到她的❤

太喜欢姜潮演的延易了，沉稳，内敛，隐忍，智慧，文武双全，足智多谋，对感情专一，超级暖男，在国子监同龄人中，智商及情商还有格局高出同窗太多level.

The end was a little bit of a disappointment: Wang Er is all alone, Crown Prince is all alone and Shiyi is all alone. Might as well jump from a cliff 😌. Some episodes were excellent, but if I had knew that the end was so depressing I wouldn’t have watch it. Crown Prince has nothing to do with the death of the Han family and yet he has to carry all of the consequences for it. 🤔 I am not sure that she truly loved him because when she was told that the he was innocent she didn’t even try to see him....almost like she went him to be a bad guy 🤨🧐...Nope not happy with the end 😣....unless there is a season 2 then that would make a lot of sense 😁

This ending is disappointing because there’s no clear closure and it can be interpreted in multiple ways (sad, open, happy). - Sad: They were so close, but didn’t see each other (symbolizing that fate/destiny meant for them not to be together). - Open/Cliffhanger: She felt him, turned around, stood up to get a better look, and her head/body slowly followed the carriage (so she might have seen/recognized his back). She thought about something, smiled, then looked back up and _continued_ to follow the direction of the carriage. It’s OK that he didn’t see her because he’s _always_ been persistent in trying to pull her towards him, but this story is about _her_ (not him). It started with her, so it should end with her. In this way, she has the freedom to think and make a choice about whether she wants to leave again _or_ be with him (he’s the emperor…it’s easy for her to find him at the palace or through mutual classmates). The feeling that made her look back could be interpreted as a nudge from fate/destiny saying, “Hey, turn around. The jade pendant found its way to him (like when you gave the little girl the hairpin) and he’s looking for you. So now what are you going to do?” She has the final say on the status of the relationship. - Happy: At the end of Wang Er’s play, he said that when the prince got the throne he forgot his promise to the heiress and the relationship ended, but Wang Er was wrong…the Fifth Prince did _not_ forget. Chen Yan Yi kept all his promises to her both large/public and small/private (the restaurant). Han Yuan Niang got the time/space to travel around, grieve, mourn, and heal from the breakdown stemming from her traumatic losses to help her reflect/gain a better perspective on everything that had happened. Instead of just cutting it off when she initially left, they show her returning to the capital 3 years later (this is *_interesting_* timing since she mentioned that according to custom, people can get married within 7 days under orders after their elder’s death _or_ have to wait after 3 years of mourning…she remembered losing her dad and the Han army only shortly before the Fifth Prince lost his father). She discovered everything he had done because of his integrity and deep love for her despite her refusing to trust him and leaving him with the words of “Chen Yan Yi, I hate you.” In the last 2 eps, she had so much pain, distrust, and anger in her face whenever she looked at him, but when she heard the children call out “Your Majesty”, she smiled and turned towards that direction (instead of walking away). She turned in his direction _again_ when she sensed him and there was _zero_ hate left in her ending smile. In past episodes after she admitted that she loved him, every time she thought about being together with him she smiled...so this was her final decision (which is why her head continued to follow the carriage)...she's accepting their relationship and they will be together. I don’t know if the director/screenwriter intentionally gave us this vague ending since there are hints to support each of the 3 possibilities…or if this was an attempt at an artistic ending that backfired and seemed to leave a lot of people unsatisfied. A clearer conclusion would’ve been better, but seeing as this is what we’re stuck with at this point, I’d rather _not_ emotionally abuse myself or the remaining characters since there are _a lot_ of other C-dramas that will already do that for you 😉. I don’t think there will be a Season 2 as most costume/ancient C-dramas aren’t meant to be that way, but I’d be happy if I was wrong about this 🙏. Overall, the first 22 eps were good. The last 2 were 😒 due to a quick change in tone, but at least it showcased You Jing Ru’s broad emotional range as an actress (going from light comedy to emotionally distraught and painfully dark). I think she did a good job and looks beautiful in that last shot. Hope to see her as the FL in more dramas.

Okay - it's not THAT bad of an ending. First - I appreciate the flash back of Wang Er - i actually quite like him as a character. I feel like if Shiyi could love him, they would make a good pair too. They get each other sometimes in ways that the new emperor and Shiyi do not. Second - I like the scene where Shiyi overhears stories about the new emperor, her coming across the restaurant Know About Food, then passing on the red jade then immediately after it is seen by the new emperor - that was nicely told serendipity. this scene with the restaurant owner Lee celebrating and taking the red jade from Shiyi - it tells the substory that the Chin lady (who was supposed to marry Shiyi and then mourned in white when she heard of Shiyi's death even though she was now married into Li's family) maybe finally softened up to her husband Li (The new emperor's cousin and the restaurant owner) and they are now happy with a new son. That's sort of like hearing if Wang's sister got married and had a son. It's heartwarming to know the other peripheral characters who weren't happy and were kind of caught in the middle of things by the main characters, can finally, still find happiness and new love and move on with life. Lastly - I'm glad that at least all three of them are alive (really i mean all three of them were constantly at the edge of death and danger), and doing the things they are good at (at least the two guys are) :) Alive = endless possibilities, - for reconciliation, learning of the whole truth, and for forgiveness. I'm also sort of glad she doesn't have to become queen for now - that's usually the beginning of tragedy, the moment there are queens and concubines in the palace is typically where new evil and tragedy starts in Chinese court drama. So for now the Emperor is smart for keeping the harem completely empty lol. And Shiyi can be relaxed and mourn and settle her mind these three years without having the burden of being Queen. The dream ending for me would be that the three of them will soon reconcile to become great friends, the girl and Wang Er concede their pride and work for the people with official positions in the court to help with national matters so that their talents, training and experiences don't go to waste - they would be great help to the Emperor and the state with their talents.

Sad ending ,they didn't meet again for the last time ...hope there is season 2 of this drama...its beautiful and the story is excellent.The male and female lead stars have a great chemistry.God bless to all.

這部古裝戲的剧情很曲折感人，幾位主角人物女世子五皇子王家兄妹演技都很到位，畫面也拍的很唯美浪漫，再加上兩首主題曲的音樂也很能配合這部戲的主調。誏觀眾隨著剧情的起伏主角人物同喜同悲，算是一部相當不錯的戲剧作品(除了大结局不能滿足觀眾的期待簡直要虐死觀眾了)，很值得細细品嚐。

I am disappointed with the end. It was a great drama, why the end is the worst. 😡

I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a drama before. There was no closure. I feel so bad for Yanyi. He did everything he could. There should have been a way out for Him and Han Yuanniang to get together. What about Han Shiyi adopted children living with his grandaunt?

The plot of this drama is one of the most agile and interesting I have seen. With comedy, battles, romance, politics, a dose of tragedy without exaggeration and beautiful landscapes and palaces. What an intriguing ending ... I wish there was a sequel. Don't leave us like this!

This was great until the end. Not just the very end, but the whole story arc of her believing the lie about him and the Han army. It goes against everything she knew about his character. And, there was no realistic reason he needed to do away with the Han army to get the throne. He already had it! And, then when she found out the truth, nada???💁🏼‍♀️

Han Shiyi could only marry the Crown Prince seven days after the order after that it would have to be 3yrs after the death of an elder, so 3 yrs has passed and Han Shiyi's back!

以元娘對無比赤誠和深情的五皇子的誤會及仇恨作結，太殘忍，也太令人失望了。

這個電視劇拍的挺不錯，演員選角很到位，也都表現精彩，取景服裝也都算是精緻，劇情緊湊沒有拖拖拉拉，但是結尾有點太突兀，草草結束而且一副未完待續的樣子，這種哲學式的結尾令人惋惜，很可惜啊！這只能算第一部，可能劇組是準備拍續集/第二部吧！既然大家還意猶未盡，何不拍個續集！

Sometimes it appears the producers just aim for sad endings unnecessarily because knowing he was innocent she still blamed him, he loved her more than she loved him.

I did not expect realistic ending in fantasy series but really liked it. Family and army hated by the most powerful parties had poor chance to survive but the writer saved the main character. I was also happy that she didn't stay with Chen Yanyi and Wang Er cause they both lied to her and manipulated her feelings, totally 'red flag' guys)) ending like this lets a place for hope that in future she will finally find a guy who will be honest and will truly love her.

It breaks my soul to see this ending so sad for both of them, I did not imagine that this was going to be the end between them, I thought they would have a happy ending rather than a “sad” one 😭😭😭

I gotta say, that was the saddest ending ever! Yanyi did everything he said he was going to do AND he proved the Hans’s innocents and he still did not get the girl! I felt so hugely bad for him! Maybe Season 2, they find each other, they have 10 kids and they live happily ever after?

I'm self pity for Yanyi, his love for Han shiyi is real! He's a good man, hope all man on earth is like Yanyi! A very loving and honest man. Thanks for this drama. It's so awesome,!

The open ending is not so bad. What really annoys me is the memory loss meme (yawn) just to squeeze out a few more episodes. It took them 3/4 of the series to thoroughly understand and like each other, just to reset this for lack of better ideas. Meh. That said, Yanyi massively lied to Yuanniang when he pretended to be someone else and that they were married. Not just to protect her, but also for his private goals - which made him no different than Zhongyu. He could no longer say "I never lied to you". This loss of credibility - together with his father's dishonest deathbed wish that Yanyi could not share with her - cost him dearly. Rushing her into a marriage must have felt forced and wrong for Yuanniang then. When Yuanniang returned 3 years later (after the mourning period) the situation was different. She seemed to have her memory back. She overheard that he is respected and liked, but not feared as ruler. Wang Anli was exposed and dead. As he had promised he had restored the Han family's honour after one year. Yanyi never took a wife after she left, and exiled scheming Chu Xiangyue. Yuanniang/Shiyi had been duty bound since being a small child, denying herself. The inn's name and menu proved that he remembered her wish to take a time-out from duty, roam "the world". Now that she's back, she is accomplished on her own - traveling alone for three years means she's tough and self reliant. Experiencing many parts of the realm first hand, possibly neighbours as well, makes her an asset as empress. When she sees him, there is a faint smile on her face that quickly vanishes. It is her choice now if she will walk towards the man she loves and hated, to resume duty again as equals for the rest of her life. But she would certainly not rush into his arms like a girl in need of saving.

I think what the writers and possibly even the directors don't understand is that we don't much care about their artistic talents and an ending is not the place to experiment with people's emotions. That's all we want is for them to come together kiss and hug and say nice words of love. Their expressions will tell us all we need to know from that point forward. And yes, I understood the grand scheme of things where she came back to town to find him and he found the necklace so he knows she's in town and close by. But the ending was ridiculous. Why deprive people from having a VISIBLY happy ending? And this is not the only one that's ended like this. I am beginning to see why people read reviews before they watch hours and hours of a movie, and no matter how beautiful the rest of the story is, the ending is really a beginning. Don't the writers and directors know that? I hate their lousy endings.. :( I hate to be left hanging even though I know the inevitable, I still want to see it with my own eyes. There are some things that can be improved upon in life, but a truly happy ending is not one of them.

Finally, this emperor admitted that he is a fatuous emperor. He even asked the Crown Prince after his death to wait for 1 yr to give justice to Han soldiers because he wanted to keep his dignity and be recorded in history. Because of him, the Great General Han, the 60,000 officers, and soldiers died on the battlefield. So sad for the Han soldiers. 😭😭😭Wang Er could have told Shiyi that the real perpetrator of Han's fall is his father.

Once again as expected for the worst ending...as it started showing all the shortcut scene... really Chinese script writers have no sense of completing the drama in the best way.. don't they want to enjoy the mind blowing ending ...or else they get tired after writing the drama in a best way at the beginning and have no energy left to complete it in best satisfying way at the ending. How could directors and producer also can't think of superb ending...??? Don't you people as a crew ,as a team discuss the whole drama...?? Do you people really enjoy meaningless ending of the drama...??? Really sad...!!! bring more creativity ....!

Actually i dunno why so many commenters think they might not get back together. It's quite clear in the end that she still loved him when she couldn't stab him all the way through, and she also instinctively blocked Wang from stabbing him. What she said about not wanting to cause chaos to the nationhe was just an excuse. And the script purposely make Wang tell her he really did not conspire to kill and malign the Han soldiers. Plus the ending after 3 years was pretty clear in showing that she kept what he gave her for 3 years, and was touched by him keeping his promise to clear the Han name and not marrying anyone. With 3 years to ruminate over things, she would no doubt also have already thought of all his difficulties and inability to prevent the tragedy. It's a very well crafted ending to me, the plot really seemed to kill any chance of them getting back together, but the ending managed to give hope quite naturally.

I loved this Drama except for the ending. She turned around because she felt his presence but the carriage drove in front of him, but as it moved forward you could still see someone there you just couldn't see who it was. I think she knew it was him because of the way she smiled. So all they had to do was to let him turn around and see each other. Didn't need any more than that, but IMO it would have been a better ending because at least we would know that they found each other.

It’s definitely a happy ending. According to the previous episode, they had to marry in 7days or after 3 years as his father king died. That’s why she was back after 3 years. She must have forgotten the new king and even felt comforted as hearing the gossip of king. She smiled as seeing the back of the king in the last moment. This implies she’d like to give him a second chance. 這是一個圓滿結局，元娘三年後回來找延易了。因為之前有說，如果要成婚要嘛七日內，不然就是滿三年。想必她是釋懷了，加上又聽到一些皇上的消息，心裏開心。最後一幕她看到皇上背影後，她是笑的。暗示她重新接納延易。

Don’t worry, he will find her and they will get married. The timing, 3 years after the Emperor’s death, is perfect for the wedding. Wishing them both happiness together for the rest of their lives.

Now he tells her after all this drama and her leaving and telling Chen she hates him.. He just wanted the 7 days to pass so then they'll have to wait 3 years. He hoping in the 3 years things will work in his favor. Wang Er u ain't have her best interest at heart at all.

好劇。雖然之前直接看大結局評論區都說結局很爛沒想看，可是慶幸還是看了。這個結局真的不算是爛尾的了，讓人有更多遐想空間。誰說結婚生娃就是唯一的好結局了？雖然還是有幾個好角色死掉，但是80%是歡樂的，女主也是多面向的，不是把人設建立在愛情上。愛了！

Excellent!! I was afraid it will have an 'and they lived happily ever after' type fan service ending. One of the best dramas I have seen so far.

She had 3 YEARS! And it wasn’t even his doing or fault! I hate this ending so much. It feels so unresolved. Yes, it has an ending, but being away from each other when they both clearly love each other is nonsense. She clearly wants a family with him. JUST MARRY EACH OTHER ALREADY! 😒

If it's not a happy end, it means it's not yet the end. This needs a season 2 AND a happy end!!

Director should consider shooting a Part II to give a happy ending to the deserving couple. The world is already full of war & sadness. When one looks for entertainment in the dream world, one looks for sweetness, happiness & perfection to make one feel happier. Who wants to feel depressed after watching a movie? Hope the Director will listen to our comments.

這個結局我很滿意！至少誤會解開了，所有壞人也都得到解處罪罰了！男一智勇雙全！男二光明磊落，必竟是自己的父親是罪人，他不能説情有可原！但最後他還是替皇上洗白了！是個君子！倒是女主的個性最適合去浪跡天涯！完美結局！

I liked the ending. She came back at the right time, gave his pendant to his restaurant, so he’d know she’s back, and was happy to hear his name. He still loves her desperately too. I’m left knowing they will get together in the right way, even if we don’t see it.

I just yelled "nooooo" so loud I woke the cat. Why would you just... why?

Who claim this is a bad ending? Wang Er told Shiyi the truth and defended the new emperor. Given the personality of shiyi, she cannot just happily patch back with emperor so she need some time to cool down and recover from her wounds. This ending give all 3 parties some closure. Wang Er and Shiyi won't be together at all because she never love him, his personality not controlling and his family causes her whole clan and family to die. Miss Su and Wang Er are comparable because both are the self sacrifice type in love.

Final horroroso! Depois de tanto sofrimento os heróis ficam sozinhos , francamente !

It's a happy ending! She realized that he has been waiting for her. With that sparkling recognition in her eyes followed by her assured smile, you can see her finally deciding that they have suffered and been missing each other long enough. It would have been nice though if the writers end this with another episode. For sure now that he saw a sign that she is in the neighborhood, do you think he will stop looking for her? The writer could also have the "former playful Shiyi" pretend as an assassin and surprise her man when he is stargazing and dreaming about her as he strolls in the garden. And as they do their slow-motion fake fight, he managed to take off her veil hat and realized it is the love of his life. Having missed each other so much, it will of course include a very passionate kiss. They could have shown the now wedded couples different ways of making up for all the time and fun they missed. The episode ends by showing these "lovebirds" surrounded by their happy kids. Their tomboy daughter learning sword fights, a boy reading a book under the tree, and the youngest enjoying snacks being a foodie like their mom. The couple gazed deeply in each other's eyes, their love and contentment showing in their gentle smile. The scene slowly zoom away as it shows the bigger scenery around them until you can't see them anymore. The End! :D

I want to believe she thought, he’s waiting for her. Did what he said he would do. So she will accept him now, because of her love for him and his love for her. Great acting

Acabo de terminarlo y quede satisfecha, no todas las relaciones tienen que terminar en alegría, quizás se asemeja a muchas parejas de hoy que por diferentes circunstancias no se quedan juntas, bonito lo ame, gracias por subirlo.

Even though it was a cliffhanger, I loved the story personally

I love watching this drama and I like the open ending, because it’s different from all this c-dramas, and live space for imagination! Actually there is a lot of signs indicating that it will be a happy ending of this love story.

I knew about the separation at the end before watching the first time and I still watched then found myself rewatching it a few days ago. Ican't stop 😩 complaining about the ending of such an entertaining drama.
