Correction. The Peranakan culture is still very much alive in Singapore. It is not a legacy. There are many Peranakan families in Singapore though in the Singapore identity card, their nationality is Chinese.
@@summergal7123 Peranakans are ethnically Chinese. They speak the Malay language, food culture is Malay, dress Malay, customs and religion wise still Chinese. The males are known as Baba the females Nyonya. LKY was a Hakka peranakan, baba I am a Hokkien peranakan, baba, but I could not speak Malay.
Not true. Between 1900s to 1940s there was also constant flow of immigration.. my great grandfather moved here from Anxi Fujian during this period. My maternal grandfather moved from foshan Guangzhou 1920s
