The First Ukraine Biomethane Forum is an open platform where senior representatives from the European Union and the Ukrainian government discuss essential steps for the development of biogas production in Ukraine and the prospects for integrating this market segment into the EU's energy system. According to analysts, Ukraine's existing raw material base alone could annually produce 21.8 billion cubic meters of biogas and biomethane. The EU has clear goals regarding the development of the renewable energy sector, particularly biomethane. Without the Ukrainian biomethane market, the EU cannot achieve its RePowerEU objectives.
Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of biomethane is mutually beneficial. However, to realize the full potential of this cooperation, conditions must be created to develop the biomethane market, including competitive leveling and sensible export mechanisms.
The forum is organized by the the Ukrainian Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Housing, and Utilities Services, Naftogaz Group, and the USAID Program RADA: Next Generation, with support from Internews.
