This talk explores the concept of being engaging in the classroom and whether it is necessary or not. Amjad dissects the notion of a gimmick and fad and present how his teaching has developed over time, which has in turn inspired generations of people.
The overall message is to be yourself, do your best and never stop learning.
Amjad is senior leader who has trained educators both nationally and internationally. He is ambitious, committed and aiming to make a difference to the education system by inspiring changes. Most recently he has been involved in co-organising BAMEed, a new national network for inspiring BAME educators. He teaches, tweets and tweaks his practice to help others improve theirs, which in turn helps him and his students too. For Amjad, education is about ensuring wherever you come from, whatever your parents do or not do, does not impact on one's potential of success. Whatever success means to that young person it should be found and celebrated.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

A bit skeptical about all this. The best teachers I had weren't necessarily that confident or outgoing. It seems that "engaging" nowadays is a reflection of an American exported model for desirable personality traits as decided by the corporate sphere. Actually it's quite interesting as the "engaging" teachers were often ones that turned me off the subject as there was too much pressure to "participate" vocally in class rather than assimilate and reflect on the knowledge. I think we need a more relaxed culture as regards teaching, it should be given respect as a profession, not as a vocation, which has opened to floodgates for all kinds of exploitation under the maxim that you should "love" your job.

He sounds like an insurance salesman from the late 1980's. Dig beneath the surface and it becomes just another 'motivational' speech powered by believing in yourself. Not forgetting he is probably being very well remunerated to boot. This in my opinion is what is wrong with education today. There is no substitute for work and more work. Its that simple.
