On April 22, 2021, the Hendersonville Fire Department officially put their new Engine-3 into service with a Push-In Ceremony. Portions of the ceremony are highlighted in the video.
The Push-In Ceremony tradition dates back to the 1800’s when firefighting equipment was pulled by horses. When firefighters returned from a fire they would wash the horses and wash the equipment. The horses would be un-coupled from the equipment and the firefighters would push the apparatus back into the bay.
After a few words from Fire Chief D. James Miller and other department leaders, HFD firefighters pushed the engine back into the bays in this time-honored tradition. Afterward, personnel showed attendees the fire engine and its’ features. The old fire engine 3 will be kept as a reserve.
The Hendersonville Fire Department thanks the Hendersonville City Council and City Manager John Connet and assistant City Manager Brian Pahle for their roles in making the purchase of this important equipment possible.
