A Southwest Airlines Boeing 738, performing flight WN-3695 from Denver, CO to Houston Hobby, TX (USA), was departing Denver's runway 25 when the access doors of the right-hand engine (CFM56) were torn off the engine. On climb out the crew advised ATC that some engine panels had come off during departure and returned to Denver for a safe landing on runway 34L about 30 minutes after departure.
The FAA reported: "Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time on Sunday, April 7, after the crew reported the engine cowling fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap. The Boeing 737-800 was towed to the gate. The aircraft was headed to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The FAA will investigate.

IMPORTANT:
This video is all about education. It's designed to give aspiring pilots and air traffic controllers a taste of real-world situations through example scenarios and helpful info. But that's not all! Current pilots and controllers can also benefit by listening to real radio communications from around the globe. This helps them stay sharp and think about how they might handle similar situations in the future.
To create these videos, I keep my ear to the ground on major aviation news and events. I check the dates and time zones to see if I can find recordings of the radio conversations. Then, I become a bit of a broken record myself, listening to them repeatedly to create subtitles and identify key moments. Finally, I whip up some animations (or grab them from ADS-B websites) and pull it all together into a neat package.

I'm thinking the last person to work on #2 engine is probably doing a rug dance by now.

What? They said that the crew and passengers heard something hit the plane. It wasn't the fault of a slacker mechanic.

Another really impressive display of skill and collaborative problem solving. Pilot sounded pretty tense: flying another Boeing with bits falling off, I imagine he’d be wondering if the entire engine was about to go. Boeing shares must be crashing.

Another impressive display that Boeing is junk.

More likely a maintenance issue, or some mechanic not securing the cowling fasteners.

Any person opening a cowling is responsible for reconnecting it. PERIOD

That's one big bird to tear up that cowling like that. It must have been a Canada Honker.

Pilot: “Pang, pang pang”; ATC:”are you declaring emergency?” Pilot:”that is the noise from the hanging engine cowling, never mind, we declare an emergency”🤣😂

Interesting that all the bits held on until the landing. Didn't matter if they cleared the runway the de-FODing prolly took a minute.

I think the outboard cowling probably fell on take off, the thing flapping was probably blue "vinyl" plastic that forms the livery.

This isn’t a Boeing issue really but a maintenance/inspection failure
