One of my buddies had his Ford 390 rebuilt, Later he had problems with out of round cylinders, rings getting wore quickly. It was a mess. Turned out, the guy that rebuilt it never took it to the machine shop to get it all trued up, line honed, surface the heads. torque plate check everything. Anyway, I love the 352. When I was a kid about 6-7 years I remember listening to a 1960 Ford with a 352. I thought that was the best sounding engine ever. SO if I win the lotto, that is what I will do, that would be one of my bucket list things to do. Get a nice 60s Ford car and have a built up 352 in it. I had a 64 Ford Galaxy in the early 80s. 4 door hardtop. Remember how the mufflers were way back by the rear bumper. Well, they would collect of water and rot out fairly quickly. I took it down to a muffler shop that bent their own pipes. He came out with some ungodly high amount for new mufflers. I started to head for the door, he said, 'I can just put pipes in there instead. I will bend them so they look stock. He did and it was cheap, they looked good. It looked a lot better, because you could see those old rotted our mufflers back there. It was fairly quiet, as long as you took it easy. But, once you floored, that thing sounded like a stock car. Then, when you back off, it would cackle real nice. I got nailed with it. The Highway Patrol gave me a repair ticket. I put up for sale cheap, and it sold right away, I never did repair. It was not long after that I moved out of state anyway. Things were different back then. They would probably shoot you nowadays.

Nice Restoration project & Good to see you got a fine, young Interested Assistant !! .....Seems nowadays, more & more youngsters Don't like getting Into Engine work Experience & getting their hands oily......Looks like you have lots of Auto & engine repair experience, so I plan to Follow the rebuild......I've seen worn out, Low compression test engines have just enough cylinder Ridge Protrusion to snap & Break originally Intact Top rings just by tapping the Pistons out & that Sometimes beats up & Damages the Pistons Top groove ring Land......There's a lot of Flat tappet camshaft & Lifter wear out Damage issues talk going on these days......Do you plan any Special motor Oil for 1st engine start--up after Rebuild ?? ......

Yes it is possible it broke when pushing it out. I had checked compression on all cylinders before tearing it down and that cylinder had lowest compression by about 15 pounds. And yes I see a lot of talk about camshaft and lifter failure. I will definitely be using a break in oil and possible zinc additive to oil changes after initial break in also.

I didn't hear if u said, what yr is that? I see it dousnt have the pcv or the oil fill in the valve cover? Both are in the intake. Must be early 60s? How far down are those pistons? They are true flat tops huh? What hp is that engine factory rated at??

Its a 1964. Oil fill is on the intake. Flat tops and 250 hp is what it was rated at. Compression was low on all cylinders and major blowby was reason for rebuild. I had already redone top end because of a cracked valve but had to pull engine anyway.

That's the original timing gear. Aftermarket gear & chain sets are all steele.
