What is the difference between an engine flameout and a severe damage?
Flameout = healthy. ie: N1, N2, and Oil Quantity
Severe Damage = Unhealthy. ie; No N1, N2 or Oil Quantity

Airbus fcom definition of damaged engige: 1. Successive engine stalls 2. N1 n2 no rotation or misbehaviour 3. Egt overlimit 4. High vibrations 5. Loss of hydraulic liquid Only 2 or more of these items should appear together, to suspect an engine as damaged

The QRH says that if N2 is below 8%, it is normal that the oil quantity is zero. I'm afraid zero oil quantity alone dose not mean engine sever damage.

On the SIM, the Rotor seizure behaves exactly as a Flameout. How do you teach to handle with that, please?

Awsome i love this channel one of my favourate channel ever watched..but could u please tell what if an dual engines suddenly fails at rotation..is it possible to glide the aircraft and bring it back where it took off
@knuble

With dual engine failure at rotation there is rarely any option but emergency land the plane directly after the runway, and hope that there are no obstacles, terrain, etc.. This recently actually happened in russia, dual engine failure due to birdstrike and the pilot was so lucky as to be able and land in a nearby cornfield. Find more information about this incident avherald.com/h?article=4cb94927&opt=0 here.

Very effective and to the point briefing. I had this situation at FL390. Oil quantity suddenly in reverse video, indicating 3. Oil pressure normal, oil temperature normal. What would you do?

Thanks for your comment Capt. Orjan!! This is a case where you would need to monitor the gauges and look for supporting information. It's possible this is simply an indication problem, however be ready to possibly shut the engine down using the engine failure or shutdown checklist.

What about Engine Limit/Surge/Stall Memory Items?
@omarcerrah
@omarcerrah 2 года назад
According to QRH, in Engine Limit or Surge or Stall conditions you will see “Engine indications are rapidly approaching or exceeding limits.” And that means N1 or N2 is increasing.

Sorry mate, you are wrong. Boeing clearly states that the condition statement for severe damage is - AIRFRAME VIBRATION AND abnormal engine indications.
