Engine Room Checks While Underway 

When underway always conduct regular engine room inspections. In this case salt buildup on main engine exhaust hose indicated loose hose clamps allowing raw seawater to accumulate rather than be expunged overhead. Easy fix to tighten hose clamps.
If exhaust hose fitting were to separate from engine exhaust the main engine raw water used to cool the exhaust would empty directly into the bilge and create a significant flooding and/or sinking risk.
