It’s fun taking stuff apart!

Indeed! It doesn’t look that bad, just standard wear components.

Yeah it’s just as well you’re taking the whole thing apart. The rocker shaft can’t be reversed though. It’s asymmetric due to the oil feed and also the feeds to each rocker have direction. They’re not crazy expensive so replace it unless it’s perfect. Check the rockers for wear on the face, and in the bore (there’s a spec for this, you can check using an unworn bit of the shaft and feeler gauges). I’ve read there’s a refurb service for the rockers and shaft in the US, which would be worth investigating. I’d also strongly recommend measuring the crank, bores and pistons, or having a machine shop do so for you rather than relying on feel!

Thanks for the input! Im trying to do as much on my own as possible. I started taking measurements of the crank today. I hope to get another video out next weekend going over all that stuff as well as a shopping list.

@@StevesProjectCarGarage Ah great, well I shall look out for that! My machining costs for my Herald engine (1.5 months ago) were not insane btw. I'd be happy to give you the numbers if it's of interest, but I guess it might not be all that helpful as I dunno how labour prices might differ for you guys vs the UK.

Glad you desided to do a full tare down! I will be doing a full rebuild on a 2nd engine while I drive the car this summer so when the time comes just do an engine swap. I'll be fallowing along.

Thanks! Me too especially after seeing the main bearings worn down to the copper. Ill be doing another video on measuring everything and building a parts list.

@@StevesProjectCarGarage Myself I would change the rocker arm shaft also but he did have a point on just flipping it over. I would think that the rockers would wear also unless they have a bushing that can be changed.

Long sleeve and hoodie in FL? -- This will be fun to watch. I'd really like to get my new frame painted and start migrating parts this summer..

nows a great time if you want to put in a performance cam. 213028 is an emissions cam. here's a vid on how this gentleman pinned his thrust washer so that it will never fall out. he didn't do it as accurately as possible.... but it should work. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7WvgYw80FLk.html

Really wanted to see the thrust bearing/washer and the crank surface! Don't be ridiculous, it doesn't need anything special unless you're planning to ride the clutch CONTINUOUSLY to get .100 thou wear! Also, Stop it with the baggies, who in the F'k is going to mix up the head nuts & flywheel &rod & main bolts with anything else, pan & timing cover, what difference does it make. Also, also, the exhaust doesn't need a WIDE seat, too wide and won't be able to crush out the carbon that tries to build up on it. Thanks.
