An engineer has developed a floating Hydro Kinetic Turbine which is able to generate electricity using surface water velocity.
The turbine is able to generate electricity from 5 kilowatts up to1 megawatts.
Heavy Duty Solutions Chief Executive Officer, BRIAN NGOMA says the initiative was developed to cushion the impact of load shedding in the mining and agricultural sector.
Mr. NGOMA says the turbine is also a result of technological advancements because hydro electricity has remained the same overtime and needed brains to revamp its potential.
He told ZNBC news that developing the turbine was in line with the Presidential call for innovation among engineers, adding that the machine can float on any water body and generate electricity for household, industrial and commercial use.
Meanwhile, Engineering Institution of Zambia EIZ President WESLEY KALUBA said such innovations can resolve the energy crisis in the medium and long term.
Mr. KALUBA said the only challenges that engineers are faced with is financing and can offer credible solutions to the country once resources are made available.
