Calling all automotive engineers / manufacturers! I want to interview you! There are still many unknowns to me about the process of engineering a car from scratch. If you know anything about the process of designing a car, how any particular part of a car is designed or manufactured, I would love to talk to you. Please feel free to reach out to me. If you want to speak directly to me, please send me a message through discord (in the description) or my email (in the channel's about section). I want to learn, and I want to share that knowledge with all of those who watch my videos.

I'm sure you've already checked, but make sure your model has space for 6in of vertical suspension travel with the wheels on and steering. Many video games either have the wheels clip through fenders or they animate the wheels steering less than the physics would imply (Forza and GTA V do this (haven't played Cyberpunk)). Forza 1 didn't fake the visuals and on LMP cars you could steer through the inner part of the car because all cars in Forza have the same steering lock.

@@grantlauzon5237 I'm making sure of that. Thanks for the suggestion though!

You should get in contact with Burning Wrenches here on RU-vid. Pretty sure that mad lad could give you some tips on building a Quadra since he's building one himself. He seems to be mostly focused on the aesthetics and body-design of a Quadra and not so much the actual performance of it, but I'd wager he's THE expert if you want your Quadra to look like a Quadra.

It is so cool to see someone take a proper engineering approach to building a project car instead of just guessing and hoping. It being the quadra 66 from cyberpunk makes it even more awesome, though I would have loved to see one of the street going versions. Either way, I'm instantly subscribed, and I hope to see this car in reality at some point in time. it is awesome! Not to mention the super well explained and illustrated video with open source code. A little side note perhaps, if you try to push yourself to be better with every video, that is commendable, but at some point youtube will no longer give you the same growth as a rewards for said effort. Be careful about burnout, your current video quality is already extremely good.

Thank you! Oh, don't worry, there will be plenty of guessing and hoping. It will just be educated guessing and hoping. I am quite aware of burnout, so I take brakes when needed, which is part of why this video took so long. Plus, I want to post videos that I can be proud of.

The best cyberpunk vehicle suspension is from the Bungie Era Halo Warthogs. It was so beautiful, but 343 had to make the suspension, "mOrE rEaLiStiC" in a SCIENCE FICTION game. All four tires had independant drive, steering, and levered suspension, and it was glorious. It looked really cool the way it worked. I really hate how 343 butchered Halo.

For the love of god.. Love the project .. some points though: 1) its suspension geometry. Not Key performance indicators. [at minimum suspension performance] KPI is the acronym for King Pin Inclination, an incline being an angle. , You will get confused. stop it. 2) Hooning is drifiting and sliding.. acting like a hooligan. Understeer is a drivers nightmare. understeer is designed for normal passenger cars, because of insurance companies and crash safety. the hooligan does not care. Most of you have been drifting since mario kart. Even in front wheel drive cars. 3) ackermann steering exists because of different turning radii. the fastest cars have, oversteer bias to strain the tyre more and gain more yaw accross the rear axle. (aka strain based rear steer) 3b) negative ackerman is put on high aero cars, like F1 or Indiecar, you are building a street brick. negative ackerman is not going to help you here. 4) wow, caster angle actively means almost nothing, when not inrelation trailing length. because as so many people get wrong. negative trail is unstable. you can have any angle to facilitate that. 5) Please look up other cyberpunk cars. Other people are building stuff.

Excellent video. One of (if not the) most indepth videos on important suspension variables. Having designed a suspension system for a FSAE car myself, I appreciate an indepth suspension video. My main complaint is that you didn't cover all of the other inputs and the relationships between them. Hopefully that will be the next video. :) The biggest question I had on the video was why you weren't using the outputs as inputs? Starting with the suspension nodes as inputs and calculating the caster, camber, etc, as outputs sounds backwards and arduous. I'm not saying it's not possible, just inefficient. All of the variables you covered indepth can easily be made inputs when CADing the suspension. Provided the software can handle underdefined wire scetches.

Thank you! I decided to not do more of the kinematic KPIs as it would have turned into a very long video which I feel most people would not want to watch, so I tried to strike a balance of being in-depth while being brief. For those who are rally interested and want to learn more, there is RACE's website. I will be covering some of the dynamic KPIs in the dynamics video. I didn't make the KPIs the input because some of them directly contradict each other, and some of them are so related that it would be difficult to know how to set it. I can set some of the KPIs to what I want right off the bat though, so I can start from a pretty favorable position and then go from there. Also, RACE doesn't accept KPIs as inputs, just the hardpoint locations.

hey, great vid but wouldnt bumpsteer oversteer be good? instead of losing turning bc youre sending the wheel into the air, you get more oversteer to offset the bumps initial loss of steering, making it more predictable if you tune it correctly, though thats just an idea, and its only based off my knowledge of offroading games and racing games.

Hey I am a mechanical engineering student and Formula Student team member, do you have any experience with Formula Student? I have experience working on rollcage, chassis. I always wanted to go in-depth in suspension design and optimisation. I still have "custom suspension simulation package" in my TODO, I also got the idea from Engine Sim video. Maybe it's a bad idea, but I may still do it. And does RACE simulation have APIs? If not why not web scrape? Isn't manually setting up simulation rigorous?

I haven't done Formula, but I have some friends on it and I've been involved in Solar Car, which is similar. I haven't looked much into an API yet, but I can look into it. I want to wait to actually start optimizing the suspension until I know the regions that hard points can and cannot be, so it will be a bit before I can actually do that unfortunately.

@@Project66Hoon Check out the Local Motors Rally Fighter. You may also find some good info over on Dezert Rangers and Race Dezert. Old forums and i don't know how active they are anymore but prerunners and blasting thru the desert at high speeds is a way of life here for some folks. Lots of great info over there on long travel suspensions, chassis design, etc. One last thing that might be cool: if you are dead set on building the frame out of aluminum, on the Porsche 917 they pressurized the frame with nitrogen and had a gauge on the dash. The driver was told to keep an eye on the gauge and if it drops, to stop immediately. Aluminum will fail given enough load cycles, and by the time you build a safe margin in you may be better off with something like 4130. Just some thoughts that struck me when i saw your vids. It definitely could be, but, and I could be wrong, I think it would require an actuator for each side, which I think would need some kind of motor for each. If I were more experienced with this kind of thing, I might go for it, but steering is an important safety system on the car and I want it to have as little chance of failure to begin with. Once I know more of what I am doing though, there is always the possibility of me adding something like this.

Lol, wouldnt it be sick if this thing got that Bose suspension they made a video about a while ago, which keeps it perfectly flat all the time

Is there a particular reason you are aiming to make the nomad version of the car and not the stock version?

Burning Wrenches is already making the stock version. Plus I love the look of this one.

Another channel on RU-vid called Burning Wrenches has been making another car from Cyberpunk and has been fine for quite some time now.

@@Project66Hoon Thats good. I just mention it because B is for Build had to give his custom mustang for a similar thing.

RCH's would be good to know, if only to have an understanding of jacking (anti-roll) forces and how much contribution you need from ARB's.

I thought I had included it, but I guess not. I am aiming for roll center in front between 0-100mm and rear between 50-150mm. I still have a lot more to learn, so everything is still subject to change.

@@Project66Hoon Your last sentence is a really good sign that you have a solid approach. On the roll center's, I didn't see it in this vid, I think you indicated you might include it in the video on dynamics, though the roll center location is really a kinematic property. One note on static toe, and stability: static toe implies the presence of a slip angle, by definition. Anything that changes the normal load on the tire will modify the lateral force produced by that tire. As such, an increase in normal load, due to lateral load transfer for instance, is going to increase the lateral force. Static toe in on the front axle, toe out on the rear, will increase the net yaw moment, which will increase the lateral acceleration, which will increase the lateral load transfer....I think you see where this is going. Obviously toe out on the front axle/toe in on the rear, will reduce the net yaw moment. I'm not suggesting that this process could actually become unstable, the toe angles are typically not even close to being large enough, it's just something to be aware of. The load transfer effects will have a slight phase lead, due to jacking forces, over toe change due to kinematic effects (bump steer, roll steer), and compliance effects (lateral force compliance steer and camber).

@@wiloberlies9598 Thank you for the input. Some of this is still over my head tbh, but I think I understand the effects of static toe. I didn't cover it in this video as I covered it in one of my previous videos and didn't want to make this one unbearably long. I am also planning to make the suspension adjustable due to manufacturing errors, not setting quite right KPIs, and just because it's a smart thing to do.

@@Project66Hoon I apologize, I didn't realize you'd covered static toe effects in a previous video. I should have watched the other relevant videos.
