The way Trent is talked about, you'd think he's been called up from a non league side. I agree he shouldn't be starting at CM, but Foden, Trippier, Kane all played far worse and 2 of those 3 barely got mentioned

Trippier been poor all season for Newcastle, at RB. Foden been brilliant all season where? RW or CAM. But Southgate shoehorns him in on the left and we wonder why he looked bad. But so many people are suffering from southgate protectionism brainmelt which essentially means they have to throw all of their great players under the bus, instead of just realizing that southgate is just not good at getting the best out of his players. Every man city fan will tell you that foden on the wing is ineffective at best. Trent hasnt played in midfield succesfully yet. Trippier is not a wide left back. I mean, the players that played well in the game was: Bellingham, Rice, Saka, Guehi, Walker, Stones. Which essentially are the players who are not playing out of position. What does that mean? It means that every single risk taken by southgate did not work. Sam Tighe said something mental this episode. He said no matter what setup you chose it wasnt going to function, is just a mad mad statement. Yes you dont have a natural overlapping leftback, but then just have a defensive/tucking into midfield left back and put a real winger like Gordon to hold the width and threaten in behind.
