Gordon has proved himself this season to being one of the best in his position in the prem and he did this with a lacklustre Newcastle team ridden with injuries.
Anyone with eyes to see would pick Gordon on the left wing. He is lightning fast, direct, works as hard as anyone in defence, gets goals...Southgate is one strange dude
We saw the exact same performance we always see with Southgates England; struggle to win, no observable tactics, no in game management, and questionable team selections. What i dont I understand is why people are always surprised; he serves up the same thing every time we play
Yet Southgate has the 2nd best win/lose ratio in history. Managed the 2nd highest amount of England games in history. Has the 2nd best record in major tournaments . He's fine.
Bellingham and foden are not the same type of player though. Foden is a system player and Bellingham is the most complete player england have ever had up to this point and he's only 20
I know a lad who can play off the left. He's got great hair, calves, possession, wind-up play and personality. He loves winnin' Prems, wearin' Gucci and Puma, and taking a nibble to set up free kicks. Does anyone have the area code for Ibiza?
Could have 11 of the worlds best players playing for england it would be the same kind of result if they were told to slow it down . Had no movement off the ball and wanted a 5 min build up in defence passing it sideways everytime they got the ball. England players are static when we have the ball no options it is like watching paint dry -seen this movie 100 times before
Southgate's excuses after the game were pathetic! Need to conserve our energy? He was basically saying that he'd rather play the whole game like that awful 2nd half.
6:33 friendlies is to scout and blood a team. This guy is a fool. Southgated issue is that he didnt scout any players. The guy brought in injured luke shaw to the friendly instead of trying mitchell, doughty or leif davies.
he's not a fool, he was spot on. Southgate has been scouting players in friendlies for years. The friendly before the tournament was because if Shaw wasn't picked then he wouldn't be coming to the euros and then we'd be fucked at LB
Nobody wants to speak about the issue with Kane in tournaments. Yes he normally is our top goal scorer but he’s literally a passenger out of possession or if the opposition are playing it cautious.
Got no supply because he picked an 8 in the 10 position and if he drops deep then YOU would be complaining he doesn’t play as a striker. Southgate is the issue
@@luke7283 Just going to pretend that Bellingham wasn't one of the best creators in La Liga this year are we? The fact is, this has been a trend with Kane over a number of years now. We have also seen it in the Champions League under various managers. In the combined four games against Arsenal and Madrid this year, he had 79 touches. To put that into perspective, Benzema in the 2021 Champions League final alone managed 57 touches. Kane just isn't a player that can affect the game from deep and also be dangerous in the box on a consistent basis, it's one or the other with him.
True. Kane and Foden should have come off after 50 minutes. Bring on Toney and Gordon. Foden gave the ball away far too much, he doesn't play like that for City. Still seeing some delayed reactions from Southgate in regards to subs. Southgate makes defensive substitutions which invite pressure. France, Portugal, Germany and Spain would batter England if that approach is adopted.
@@MrBrasserie There are Lies, damn lies, then statistics. If Zidane plays me in with half a dozen great balls and I put them all in row z, is he a bad player ?
The media, Southgate and England fans deserve to be in this position for constantly slating United. All we’re hearing is 'we miss Maguire’ and 'when Luke Shaw is back’ and how much grief they get constantly from rivals and the media is beyond me And do you really think there’s a better option than Rashford when playing this counter attacking style? Against teams like Serbia? In or out of form Rashford does things in big games
Same old ,same old .Whoever thought england under southgate would win any tournament is dreaming ,keep him for 20 more yrs and he still wont win anything im afraid ,when did foden ever play well for england .
Nobody bar Alf Ramsay has won anything and it isn’t always the managers fault. Southgate has got as further than any other manager bar Ramsay so what more do you want?
He should have taken tyrick mitchell the LB from crystal palance. As we didnt take rashford lw we need penetrative runs... take off kane and put on watkins. We need a striker that runs behind the defence. We have great playmakers but they have no options because kane doesnt move. Very lazy player
I can only recall one shot from outside the box ,that was trent , Theres too many passes when we get near the box ,Thats why walker was so indecisive when put in ,he didnt know if to shoot or pass
Leaving Grealish and Maddison at home was completely idiotic even by Southgate's standard. We have the worst coach in the tournament which is why we wont win.
Please stop being sheeple talking about media darling players. Eze for me has more talent than both. The problem is Southgate is a coward an armadillo and will never make a positive proactive decision in a tight game. The Southgate took off Saka the only guy with speed that would stretch the game, left all the pace on the bench so Serbia could squeeze the game. He is a trash coach and we will not win anything.
Gordon is the ONLY player that is a goal threat. He even runs far post for crosses. Where was the logic of not having him in this team. Kane drops deeps so it compliments a Gordon who runs in behind or can be direct with the ball and make something happen
watched the game down the pub with my mates. I said to them this is exactly what us hammers fans have felt like. But we got called a disgrace for wanting Moyes out. I have hardly any passion for England games anymore. Moyes did the same, only changed like for like player and didn't have a plan b. We won but we will not win the euros under Southgate. Such a shame, we have a brilliant team and under the right manager we could win something. Listening to all these calls (and I agree with them) is exactly what us hammers were saying and the talks sport hosts laughed at us. But they are agreeing with everything now which was no different to the Moyes haters.
Well done to Gareth Southgate and the lads ⚽🏴🇬🇧 The Serbs are a big, very physical side and not wholly unskilled either. Phil Foden had difficulty coping with the physicality to be honest. And I don't think Gordon would have been much better. The Serbs had trouble with Saka down the right and someone with a similar attacking style like Eze down the left might have brought about a bit more positive play and perhaps another goal or two. In any event, England got the result and kept a clean sheet. Those are real positives. There are so many teams that can win the Euros. No one can be underestimated and no team, including England, should be overestimated either.
i think the whole issue is that the squad are not complimentary to each other,it needs to be a chain, from what i can see is there are too many play styles that conflict with the interests of the team as a whole. there needs to be a cohesion player to player, each serving a role to the bigger picture. Southgate picked "on form"....on form can only carry a team so far,but if your on form players are playing out of position then you might as well bring a wet sock and field it
How id do it. Either walker or Trent at RB to invert, rice Bellingham double pivot Bellingham presses forward on ball the invert takes his place or use stones to push up like city so you get both Bellingham and foden attacking the centre with saka RW and Gordon LW.
But on the bright side, what a performance by Aleksandar Mitrovic! If he dosent get player of the tournament, there is no justice! 3 cheers for Mitrovic …hip hip horaay….👊🏽
Foden and Bellingham occupy the same space, make the same runs and want the ball to create all the time. You can't get the best out of both when both do the same creative job. Alternatively, you play foden beside kane and alter the play style.
O Hara really doesn’t like to give plaudits to the opposition does he? Serbia played well in the second half, defended and were stubborn. Give them their credit.
It’s really not a complicated adjustment, Trent out and Gallagher in, Foden out and Gordon in, start Sake and sub in Palmer at 55 or sooner if game dictates, and Foden subbed in around 65. And pressure for 90 mins, there’s no reason this team should ever be off the gas!
I said Harry Kane was burnt out at this level in our previous tournament, yet he continues too leave him on the pitch for the full 90mins. Surely the time too put fresh legs up front, is when we are winning, and not actually chasing a game. Have some balls Southgate, and do what’s best for the team, not someone’s reputation. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
bringing on gallagher to shore up the team physically instead of bringing on mainoo to control the game technically and keep the ball relieving pressure is southgate to a tea and why they wont win it
While I want to see us controlling the game. Not sure I agree with "if we play like that against a top team we wont win." As a thought it makes sense but when you look for some sort of evidence to back that thought up, I'm not sure I can find it. I've just watched Portugal against a low block and it took an own goal and a big defensive error for their 2nd goal. France have scrapped past Austria 1-0 with an own goal. Didn't see the Netherlands Poland game but its 2-1 with an 83 minute winner. Belgium have lost to Slovakia's low block. The only example I can see is Germany, but that was against Scotland who are not as good as Serbia, Czechs, Slovakia. Plenty of teams struggling to beat the "lesser" teams.
How the Hell is England lacking in the left back area ffs.. doesn’t Southgate have enough to choose from. Why only look in the premier or higher European leagues to pick players. At club level Yes I can accept a club being light in certain positions BUT at international level he has NO EXCUSE. Need a different England manager Simple. Alan Shearer and Ian Wright joint managers because you know the football would be exciting and plenty of goals.😊
With Foden and Bellingham, the Italians or Germans never forced players into other positions to 'accomodate'. Thats why players like Zola and Mancini had so few international caps for their talent. There was a better player in their position. End of.
The only space in the game was wide both sides serbia played defensive and narrow if we could have over lapped both sides we may have had more joy.also our full backs are left isolated one on one when most side when we get it wide double up on our wide men it's a tactic used by most teams apart from us and we look vulnerable. To me its easy to see but we continue this way
The negativity of England fans is so dispiriting. Other teams have tactics too. England won with a professional performance and kept a clean sheet. You don't win a tournament in the first game. Everyone's knows better than Southgate it seems despite him having the best tournament record of any England manager since 1966.
True, but these type of tactics would never last all the way in the knockout stages against Spain or France for example. Southgate is to predictable and one dimensional coach. He needs to adapt to the opposition infront of him and the game at hand.
Too many players want to float around the box, Kane, Foden, Bellingham and Trent all drifting around the box randomly, only Saka providing any width and penetrative runs, nobody wanted to be near their centre backs. The left hand side was non existent
Because Saka is playing his position that he plays every week. It why he should brought Rashford. He and Saka stretch the play, get ij behind, and hold width.
I honestly think the team that wins the Euros this year will not be the favourite.I suppose what I’m saying is it won’t be England.Achieving success isn’t just about individuals it’s about making the right decisions at the right time in games something which Southgate has failed to achieve!🤯
Exactly how I thought it would be, play awful, all argue who’s playing where scrape through the group stage while the ex pros defend Southgate, get knocked out in the last 16.
English logic is non existent… so if maguire scores to win the game, should he be played as striker the next game?? Team balance is important. Others can score if Jude doesn’t.
These podcast are bipolar... like the weather, this morning it was all Trents fault, then they decided to actually watch the match and decided it was kane and foldens fault.... GOOD THING WE WON THE GAME, i agree with the caller friendlies are to get the players used to playing together and work on setups, tactics etc not AN OPEN TRIAL DAY....
