72 & 76 euros only four teams qualified, not really a proper final tournament just two semi finals, a final and a 3/4 PO match. 74 WC knocked out by Poland who finished 3rd in the finals. @@WZ-xu6in Ok, l worded it wrong, but technically, were the most gifted, which they produced in 1990 World Cup, and by 1992 was the best team in Europe before being expelled from Euro 1992 being replaced by there group runners up Denmark.
@@PeterAnderson-z4y Jugoslavia, based on Crvena Zvezda, was very powerful team at the early 90s. Maybe not the best, but one of them (Netherlands, France, Germany too). All of them underrated Denmark so much :--)
Was it ever thus...breeze through qualifying for Euros and World Cups (usually) and then lucky to get out of the group stages when England get there. Not as good as we think we are.

18:19 I was at this game as a 9 year old as part of a school trip. We were on a tier below the Turks, who had a HUGE fat guy who was singing and cheer leading. Kid in my class kept throwing Rowntrees Fruit pastels at his back when he was geeing up the crowd, and he'd turn round trying to see where they'd come from. I remember my dad buying me a huge England flag on a stick from a vendor just as we went into the stadium, and a steward immediately taking it off me, removing the stick and giving me back the balled up flag. Dad wasn't impressed as he'd just paid £5 for a flag on a stick, and the stick was immediately taken. But this was only a few years after Hysel, so even 9 year olds were suspected hooligans!
