Steven,Dodge,I wanted to let you know just how much this interview(and many others on your channel Dodge) have helped me,and no doubt many others. A discussion about such a subject is not easy and Steven you need to take credit for that,as well as Dodge for discussing these issues with your guests in a firm but empathetic way. The way Steven identified, highlighted and explained all the effects of addiction in such an open, honest and frank way make it easier for addicts-and crucially-their family and friends to really ‘understand’ a little better. In particular most people don’t realize that addicts end up hating what they do,which in itself is just another(if not the worse)trigger. This really has helped me identity my own behaviors and how they have affect my family and work life, and of course myself. So ‘thank you’ Steven and Dodge. ❤
I watch a load of different podcasts, covering all manner of subjects and this one has been amazing. Well done to both of you. Well done Steven for opening up and no doubt helping a lot more people than you will realise. And well done Dodge for letting him speak, letting it flow and then asking the right questions at the right time. Bang on! YNWA. Cheers
He should be speaking around all the Academy’s around the country , seems a decent well level headed guy just shows gambling really is a illness, keep the content coming dodge 👍
Another brilliant episode Dodge. Brutally honest and what a lovely, genuine guy. I really hope he manages to stay healthy and happy. Thanks again for another outstanding show.
This episode was big for me Dodge, Thankyou Steven, going through this myself just not on prem level spends. Taking control is hard admitting issues is tough good to hear people like yourself speaking out about it, it makes a difference and helps
Great show yet again Dodge/Steven. I think (and drawing from my own experience) with gambling it’s not about the amount of money you earn but what you are losing vs what you are earning and then hitting that thought chain of how much you lose vs how long it will take you to earn it back. I think Steve has absolutely nailed it, especially the emotional journey he went through. Fantastic pod from start to finish 👍🏻👍🏻
Just came across this one, watched all your interviews Dodge……… all credit to Steven fronting up here, just shows you can change, dreadful addiction! Keep up the good work 👏🏽
Enjoyed this, as an ex gambler I related to this a lot, it destroys everything no matter or status, intact the bigger you are the harder the fall even tho each individuals pain is relative it’s also much the same, same results, a gambling addiction is terrible, I’m 47 and should be successful but instead I’m skint and broke in a lot of aspects in my life but I’m on the road to recovery and my advise to anyone reading this is go and get professional help and as long as you’re honest about it you will start seeing major changes and getting help to put prevention tools in place. Steven is a great ambassador for addiction as he seems level headed and smart. Great chat
Am not into football but put this on last night and was blown away by Steven’s matter of fact honesty, a rare trait in podcasts, bless him. Have had personal experiences in my family with full blown addictions and he tells it as it is and there is no bullshit whatsoever. Respect, am sure he will do very well indeed ❤
So eye opening! Football fans should watch this as I believe it would help them understand the issues young footballers face. There's very little, if any, human empathy for high-earners. Great episode 💙
Hi, Dodge, great podcast again, you make it so easy for them to open up, cant imaging loosing all that money, good luck to him, nice bloke, look forward to the next one
Nice one Caulks, I can relate to a lot with gambling addiction having gone through it & still battling to this day, I vaguely remember one day in a Cardiff casino both of us on a loss & both of us getting steaming pissed! Losing the will to live!! Keep battling & helping those that need help mate up the mighty blooobirdss \0/ \0/
It doesn’t matter whether you come from a good family or not gambling is part of the culture here in UK and the probability of been affected is very high
@@DodgeWoodallgenuinely, I find your way of interviewing people spot on. At first Caulker was a million miles an hour, but you chilled him out with in 15. It's a pleasure to watch you ask decent questions, at the right time. Fair play and much respect 👊🏽
What an honest and open Guy . Up most respect Steven ..your an inspiration to to young up and coming player's. Fantastic interview 💚👍..ps my first contract was £26.50 +Travelling expenses YTS with Motherwell FC 😂
That must have been a tough call to come clean like that, fair play to SC for getting it out his system and hopefully it will help him come to terms with it all by talking and not bottling it up to then eat away at him. I count myself lucky in that since I was 18/19 up till today at 57 I do a £5 football acca and a £2.50 e/w double on the horses throughout the season on a Saturday, had some half decent accas come in £500/600 but never enticed me to go bigger luckily but seen mates do their boll*x and get in some serious debt.Pulled another 1 out the bag again Dodge.
Dodge great episode As a gambling addict in recovery for nearly 5 years i have beeen trying to contact Steven for some time now but to no avail. I have some things i would like to put to him in regard of helping others with it. Dodge is there any way privately i can contact you to maybe help point me in direction to get in touch with him? Really enjoying your show btw, keep up the good work, great selection of guests and great you allow them to speak unlike some who jump in constantly making it a hard listen.
I've been sucked into gambling lately. I'm on 2000 a month after tax and I checked my account the other day and spent 36000 this year. That doesn't include what I won but puts me about 8000 down over a year😢. 4 months a year I work for nothing when you sit there and think about it. Started as a bit of fun now become a problem.
It's inevitable you'll lose, don't be surprised about it. The more you gamble the more you lose and then you start the impossible pursuit of recouping loses. The biggest win you'll ever have is, realising the predetermined result, when you stop gambling.
I remember it well when we signed him. Looked like a very savvy buy, and at the time, didn't understand why he wasn't being played much. It was only afterwards that I was realised that he had alot of personal things going on behind the scenes.
Another great podcast, Alcohol needs to be reclassified as a drug instead of Alchol as it would change attitudes towards drinking, if you look it up in the dictionary it is a drug
Enjoyed this podcast,,they'll be loads of footballers who gamble on a regular basis, once they've finished training early afternoon there's not alot else for them to do and its summut u can do in private so easily accessible not like the olden day's were u ad to go to the bookies,,most the bookies r shuttung down near me
As a ex gambler well never really free iv never related more to someone its mad iv often wondered that if i had more money id just bet at a higher level and you've confirmed it for me were identical in a gambling sense id just chase more 😮 thanks its helpful 👍
Steven real talk mate. The way he said the public will think you had my dream and you fucked it lol funny but true but fairplay for admitting it steve thousands of others would probably done the same. Well done for getting clean tho bro all the best for the future mate.
Such a shame that horrid disease got hold of such a seemingly love person with a clean soul! Gambling is so misunderstood how serious and dangerous it really is… So glad a proud I’m clean now.
If I told you (Allegedly) 80% of every quid payed into elite sport right now is directly/indirectly supplied by gambling firms would you believe it? Biggest conflict of interest I can think of.
I didn't see the appeal i knew guy's who would spend money in betting shops on horse racing found those places boring think players get more help for ther addiction now a day's
20K a week not mega money 😂 I think this kid is in for a rude awakening in the real world jobs market, hope he finds something tho because he seems a decent lad.
Honestly firstly I'm a big fan love the stories that are told here, but I just buried my sister and I'm a recovery addict 20 years now and what I'm a LFC fan and I supposed to feel bad, sorry what because I don't understand the pressure of earning millions loved by many and hated by others but I'd swap my life for good in a heartbeat so stop with the 🎻 the story I could tell of being a great footballer to the 90s raves into addiction losing friends, finding others dead and I'm ain't cold hearted but after burying my sister, look I can get addiction right but like he wasn't waking up shaking going through withdrawal from even thinking about a 🐎 or football stop will you. I'm from Dublin love the show but man do people understand the pressure premier League players are under, what to get payed more than a kids surgeon for playing a child's game like cmon David in Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 Èire
