He was a class act. He was like a gazelle jinking his way through the opposition. He took some massive hits too and shook them off and went again. Some player!!!
20 year old Bryan Williams a sensation in South Africa with All Blacks the previous year scored two great tries in this match. Probably a shame later in 1971 that ball was not passed to him more often during the ABs v Lions test series where his pace and sidestep could have caused problems for the Lions. David Duckham was also sensational in this match and carried that form on the Lions tour,
Yes indeed - I thought of this video as soon as I saw the news. Probably my best memory of him is being at Twickenham for the Barbarians against South Africa in 1969 and watching him score a beautiful try (with the classic sidestep) after Gareth Edwards had fed him on the blind side from a scrum.
Bob Hiller was my form and my maths master when I was a school. I wish I 'd seen this then. Should have guessed when I saw him teaching us rugby. Ever seen a cross between a rhinocerous and a giraffe? You've seen Bob Hiller in action. Such a decent bloke. Where determination meets self discipline. Meet Bob Hiller. S.
That's actually Starmer-Smith doing the voiceover at the end, years after the game. I wonder how he felt about watching his younger self making a load of cock-ups!
a bit harsh based on 2 minute of play, the england selectors at the time must have thought he was a good player, just hope non of his family read what you have to say,you never know they may be very proud he played for england.
