Yes and how the model-like hostess! The narrator? Is this cinema or TV? Why is her dialogue, her explanatory, "footnotes" blabbed over- I thought it was the channel I was watching or my connection! Too bad because this period in Britain's history and women's too, is SO fascinating and truly shaped modern North America- I am not a Royal Family Follower but I think Queen Elizabeth 2, The Crown wins hands down and for a riveting performance, a dull script made enjoyable by Helen Mirren arguably one of the greatest actresses of the last hundred years- since cinema, maybe before, Sarah Bernhardt! Helen's performance as Queen Elizabeth reacting to the death of Princesd Diana, is SO MOVING, SO STUDIED, SO NEAR PERFECT- a boring film considering the subject matter- shouldn't have been made worth your while as a student of acting- this is HOW! Sorry for rambling. Nobody pays attention to me anyhow-

Elizabeth I the Virginia Queen. Gloriana, wrote poems to her father even before he acknowledged her and had banished her illegitemized her. She was very smart and humble shrewd and intelligent. She refused to marry because she protected her crown and her personal power. She was not weak. When she was become Queen she wielded that as powerfully though with more wisdom than King Henry VIII.

I can only imagine how lonely she must have felt. But Elizabeth I knew full well that as ruler that she can't make the same mistakes her sister Mary I did which was why she gave up her love (Robert Dudley) for the country. That sacrifoce was what led her to becoming the greatest British monarch in history.

No. Queen nos 1 had full power. The second Elizabeth has no power bar an influence. Parliament rules & if it doesn't get it's way it resigns & the Queen asks another party to form a government but it needs a majority to do so. The Queen is a symbol. Personally I lost all respect for QE2 because of all the money that gets stolen from the taxpayers to fund their private undertakings ie Harry getting £2m to refurbish cottages for his country retreat, his father as PoW had a few £100s million & Harry has £15m, yet the poorest taxpayers fund his alterations & the Queen owned it too. They have been doing this for decades because they can. Harry should get a mortgage if he wants not too touch his nice savings.

I've watched many documentaries in regard to the Tudors. I know this maybe an unpopular opinion/thought, but I'd love to hear other thoughts and opinions on the subject matter. I've seen this particular documentary a few times and as I was watching this a thought came to mind. What if Elizabeth was setting up Thomas Seymour and was playing a role. As we know she was a bright and intelligence girl but also had some ruthlessness and cunning inherited from both of her parents. Now yes, he was very young when Thomas was grooming her, but I believe in the back in her mind she wanted to get revenge on Thomas....Why? First, he was blatantly disrespectful to the woman she loved and regarded as a mother figure and violating her at the same time. Then when it was found out by Katherine Parr, and she was sent away and she never saw her again Elizabeth blamed Thomas for destroying the relationship with Katherine and now the love and security she felt in her life was gone forever due to this man's lust for power. She barely remembers her own mother and endured the mistreatment of her father so I know the loss of security was devastating and she will never experience again. Therefore, I believe she played along after Katherine death and put him on track to go the scaffold. Just a thought.

Elizabeth, as an aristocratic young woman would have been taught to say no to a man without openly rejecting and making him angry. this would have been basic manners to a girl in that world. He was the hubby of her beloved stepmother who tried to molest her while Katherine was pregnant , her dirty old uncle . She did turn him down for sure but no woman would have been openly rejecting him at that level of power. That would have been called manners but honestly could be life and death or could come to that especially if she hurt a powerful man. She was not queen yet ok. She was just a female in that oppressive;y suffocating patriarchy. She would have been taught caution < She was being smart amd pragmatic in what she would have kmown at that age. Seymour was overkilling and one of the cant take a no even given sweetly. FROSS

Elizabeth I was perhaps England's greatest monarch ever, not just a queen. She was also a bit off her rocker, but if you grew up in a life-threatening, toxic environment as she did, you'd be a little crazy too. I’ve lived in East Sussex my entire life. My ancestry dates back over 600 years across England and Europe. I’ve spent my lifetime studying, documenting, and preserving England’s history, for the generations to come….However, what is most disappointing to me, is documentaries like this one. They often disregard segments in relation to the lives of these historical figures. These segments are of great historical importance, and any exclusion manipulates the viewer’s understanding and perception of their true lives. Its imperative we document and preserve England’s history, diligently and accurately. Hollywood has done England’s heritage a great disservice, and it will take time for the damage to heal. This kind of work does not help. Please do better next time.

@@phyllispetras3369 I would suggest “The Lions Club, BBC 1971 Elizabeth R 6 part series”. The series is exquisite in the level of historical accuracy. While some elements are truncated and others are exaggerated, you don’t see any of the crazy invented story lines that happen in some modern versions of her life. The only possible complaint I might have about this series is about the first episode, which shows Princess Elizabeth’s tumultuous rise to the throne. Jackson was in her mid-30s when that was filmed, thus playing the teenaged princess was a bit of a stretch. The episode is necessary to tell the story, and Jackson is an amazing actor in the part; the look is the only thing that doesn’t quite work. It’s a very minor quibble. I would also recommend “The Six Wives of Henry VIII" was a series of six teleplays produced by the BBC and first transmitted between 1 January and 5 February 1970. Not to be confused with “the six wives of Henry VIII (documentary). I can list others, but I would start here. Cheers!
