They would have been 30 for 5 if Alan Knott hadn't missed that catch that was NEVER his in the first place. He did the same thing on the 1st morning of the 5th test, diving in front of an edge that would have been an easy catch for Tony Greig. I guess the wicket keeping record was preying on his mind.

Selvey was 28 yrs old when he made his test debut (and grabbed the wkts of Fredericks, Richards & Kallicharran in his first 20 deliveries), so a long test career was perhaps unlikely. His test career actually ended in Mumbai in '76-7. There wasn't much call for a medium fast swing bowler on the spinning wickets of the Indian subcontinent!
@@dlamiss England was desperate to find faster bowlers for the Headingley Test and introduced Willis, Snow (his final Test) and Ward. Selvey was fit but it was felt he was the wrong man to win Tests regardless of what he could do in county cricket. Selvey later became a cricket writer, writing several article for Wisden (including 1989’s ‘The Problem of Pitches’) and a book on the 1989 Ashes tour.
