I'm a simple woman: I stitch one color and then another color and then another, within one or two blocks. No parking and certainly no extreme cross country stitching - that would be boring as all hell...! The pleasure comes from stitching various colors next to each other and NOT having threads hanging all over the place and not being too rigid about the "stitch path". Starting from the middle gives many places to stitch depending on your mood so it always feels fresh to get back to the project. I don't know, seems like people are making full coverage stitching more complicated than it needs to be... I also stitch in hand and use no apps. A needle, threads, the pattern, wooden pencils to mark off the stitches on a paper copy ( on PDF I can use digital marking off, at least on my Mac ) and a pair of good scissors. That's all I need. Guess I'm lucky!

I like your thinking. What fabric type do use use? I have found I like using 20 ct Lugana using 2 sts over 1 . I have some 25 ct to try yet also .I have not stitched in hand yet, but would like to try it. I am not liking Aida anymore as stiffer and takes longer to stitch. Also do you stitch diagonally or by 10 st squares across or down? Greetings 🇨🇦

I’m like you I started here recently I was doing all one color until my second project and now I’m starting on the left top and gone over to middle and now working downward… My issues are am I to tight on my stitches? I can’t find no one to answer this!! I like your way as I’m simple too haha 😂 Is there a certain way we should be stitching that’s the reason I did my second project close together and moving across and downward So does it matter where we start? Thanks for bay and all help Take Care 🙏🏻♥️🤗 Sheila

Ive taken on a pattern that is 23” x 27” don’t ask me why? I didn’t rally get the magnitude of this until i started ordering supplies. Such a great tutorial video. Very greatly appreciated. I have been away from the cross stitch world more than 30 years. Many changes. I do have QSnaps and did find them better than hoops. I even have a stand, surprisingly never used. I sit in a recliner, not conducive. I recently purchased a lap pvc frame off Amazon (pink/white). It's very good I just wanted it wider instead of taller. It can't work that way and the QSnap extensions will not work with it. The pvc pipes are not the same size. I have ordered a second, so I could make the frame size I prefer. Sadly after ordering, I have learned to do the sewing method. Lol I love the sewing method. Grant you I am on 11 count stamped budget friendly canvas. After 2 strokes I have issues with numbers. Counting would be rough for me now. I am a 61 year old man, blind in one eye since 18 months old. Depth perception has always been a curse for me. That is why I prefer Aida cloth. Even weave or linen I could never use. My favourite count has always been 16. 2 strands of thread always completely covered the square. It is a shock to me how much floss is now. I remember you could get 4 for $1.00. Yeah, it's been awhile. Hehe. My wife does embroidery. We have always used DMC. After watching many videos, I wonder about CXC thread. Many like it and they are cheaper than DMC. Have no idea where to purchase it. I am curious about just using the tent stitch. On maybe 14, 16 or 18 count. We are at the end of life's span so quicker we can get a project done, better for us. Lol Our children can pass on finished projects. Sorry for this lengthy msg. Just want to say thank you for your videos. Your time and energy into them is greatly appreciated. Thank you. God bless you with all your endeavors. One question, where was HAED 30 years ago?

Thank you for posting this video; it was helpful to me and I appreciate the time and effort you invested in making this. I have a question about parking with which I hope you can help. From other tutorials, I've heard that darker colored floss can be seen through the stitches on the front when the floss is stranded across empty squares and then trapped between the fabric back and lighter colored stitches that are eventually worked in those squares. So I've been trying to be careful to finish off with each color when there is no immediately adjacent square to work in the same color. It's time consuming, so the idea of parking appeals to me. But do I need to be careful about only stranding floss across areas of similar color value when I'm parking? If I'm working a piece with lots of high color contrast, should I avoid the parking method? Or do you find that the stranded floss really doesn't show through if enough strands of floss are being used for the thread count of the cloth? Also, are some cloths (e.g., thicker/heavier weight cloths) better at preventing unwanted colors from showing through to the front? I'm not an experienced cross-stitcher, so I hope my questions make sense. Thank you!

Haven't been cross stitching for long got an easy pattern kit set for my first one was shocked how long it took but loved doing it anyway now I'm trying a bigger project but at least I know it's going to take me a while to do I would recommend an easy kit set to first timers so that they have a finished project rather than be disappointed that it takes so long and never finish it

I am new to cross stitch world and i just love this video of yours where you explained everything i needed to know before i begin . My only 2 inquiries would be , how much ( size in cm calculating extra for the framing ) should i buy a piece of the fabric. I am still unsure of what fabric types would look good for full coverage, or just a sampler . Also how many count would look good for full coverage and how many count would look good for the sampler type . Also when i buy pattern it has already been calculated for a particular count on particular fabric , how should i go by if i want to change that . Overall love your detailed explanation 🤍

I only use 28ct evenweave for my full coverages 1 over 1 so its not 14ct, plus 1 thread coverage is perfect 👌 25 ct is weird for me because 1over1 doesn’t have enough coverage and 2over1 is too bulky.

Half stitch and tent stitches look different on the back side. So they are different even though they look the same in front of the fabric. I actually just learned this today by watching Jean Farish #115. I really enjoyed your video. Hi! I don' know how to best articulate my question but I'll try. I want to try cross country page by page. I've done another method before but I see columns line. So when you start your page, how do you choose which colour to stitch first? And the second? And for the cross country, do you go block by block to finish all of the colour on that 100 stitches, and then on the next 10x10 block below or next to it until you are done all that colour on that page? Not sure if this makes any sense...
@Ceaftnookemporium
@Ceaftnookemporium 3 года назад
I usually choose the one colour that has the most stitches in the page. Once I’m done with it, I go to the next one. If you use pattern keeper of saga, it’s easy to do. If you don’t, I used to just look at the page and guess which symbol I can see the most of 😂 in regards to if I go block by block, no I don’t. I go one row at a time from left to right, then the next row down from right to left, like a zig zag snake 😂

Hi Margaret, I fill up my sink with slightly warm water, pour some clear washing up liquid and fabric dye catchers (little sheets you can get from different shops or Amazon). This prevents colours of dmc from bleeding. Leave there for a about 4ish hours. Hope that’s helpful x
