In the Philippines, we say, Barbecue or abbreviate it to BBQ (because of Korean cuisine influence) but we also use ihaw. The food that is barbecued is called inihaw. For sneakers, in the Philippines we also call them rubber shoes. For cookies, we also use cookies but spelled as kukis. Canteen is normally used if there are several stores in one area and there's dining tables in the middle. You have to pay for the food and each store is not related to each other. Karinderya is similar to canteen but karinderya is used if there is only one proprietor and dining area. Canteen is also used for schools.

South African here Braai is an Afrikaans woord that means to grill. It is from the Dutch braden which is probably cognate with braze. The first time traffic lights were introduced, newspaper headlines mentioned "robot policemen." This was shortened to just robots. The shoes are called takkies and I think that it refers to their rubber soles.
