I watched this when it was first transmitted in the early 90s with my younger siblings (who were in their early teens at the time; I was in my late teens). The next day, we had to take a bus journey into town and we got a lot of strange looks from the other passengers as we kept screeching "Tree!" and pointing out of the window before giggling our heads off. I'm sure they all thought we'd taken something illegal :)
I remember Harry being interviewed ages ago and when asked what his most odd fan interaction was, he said he was walking down a street, a lorry pulled up in front of him, the driver jumped out pointed at a tree and shouted “TREE!!!” Then got back in the lorry and drove off! Genius! 🤣
Yes, I was in Bridport when Martin Clunes moved there, drove into town and asked me where he could buy a table tennis bat . I told him and he bought a pair of two. One red and the other green. It is the most interesting that that has ever happened to me in my life, and now I am in the home, I talk about this amazing event to everyone that I see. I like interesting things, don't you ? @@MushookieMan
This Harry Enfield sketch is so funny every person we knew was going tree...car...shop the next morning I swear they were gonna the men in white coats the fillipina maid sketch was funny too
Still funny. My girlfriend is Hungarian & she found it amusing. Though I think she could also appreciate how hard it was for the aliens. The aliens 'looked' a little Hungarian as well. ;)
Me and a few mates once got asked to leave a pub because we laughing too much about this stuff. What a delightful place full of happy go lucky people. NOT!!!!!
Everytime one of my friends says "TREE" i do the Aliens learning english TREEEEEE!, unfortunately so few people know the reference, but with modern phones, they soon learn it.. :)
One aspect of this sketch I adore is Harry Enfield's alien (appropriately wearing an "H" on his head) putting two and two together with the parking meter: "Carr trlee!!". That and the two aliens touching noses & turning around in celebration! I'm started impersonating bits of this sketch again after watching this! Although I'm wondering whether Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport, the Teletubbies' creators, were watching this back in 1992 and something clicked! :-) "The bay-bee Jee-sahs! Aaaahhh!!"
We went on a bus tour which took us round Orkney - and were sat near a couple of young guys from England who obviously thought the Scots spoke funny, so they did the odd impromptu skit... but one of the things they found hilarious was our pronounciation of the word 'trout', which, in Scottish vernacular is often pronounced as 'troot' so every so often they'd just shout "Troot!!!", but usually prompted by something fishy or fish-like, such as signs on shops or vehicles, etc. It was actually very comical sitting listening to their banter. .... I guess you had to be there.
One of the funniest set of sketches I ever saw. Whoever came up with the idea (Mr Enfield no doubt) must have had some trouble convincing the producers that it might be funny. It’s so funny but I still don’t know why.
Oh my.... I have not laughed so hard in ages 🤣🤣🤣 This is total absurdist genius fully worthy of Monty Python. Take my advice and do not watch this when you have a dry cough. Been there, done that, not nice 😅
I remember, back in 2003 I think it was, I was chilling at my neighbors' place, stoned so much I couldn't get up, and saw this. For the last 20 years I've been trying to find it again. I thought at first it might be The Fast Show, or any one of dozens of other British comedy groups. You have completed this quest for me. I am a changed person. Now-now I can rest. Thank you.
