Welcome to English in a Minute … from home.
Baseball is a very popular sport in the U.S. So, it’s no surprise that we have lots of baseball-related idioms, like this one:
VO/GRAPHIC: Hit it out of the park
JE: Anna, how did your live-streamed puppet show go?
AM: Jonathan, we hit it out of the park. People laughed. People cried. People cheered!
JE: Wow, that’s awesome! So, you could see the audience reaction even online?
AM: Well…no. But I could feel it.
When a baseball player hits a ball that lands outside the ballpark and into the stands, they score a home run! As an idiom “to hit it out of the park” means to do something really well. You can use this expression to describe just about anyone...even puppets!
And that’s English in a Minute!
