Cookies are delicious. But this kind of cookie sounds dangerous.
Sharp Cookie
JE: Anna, you look worried. What’s up?
AM: Today is my beekeeping exam. I have to pass if I want to be a professional beekeeper!
JE: Don’t worry about it. You’re a sharp cookie. I’m sure you’ll do fine!
AM: Thanks. I just hope I don’t have to touch any bees.
“Sharp cookie” describes someone who is intelligent and a quick learner. In this case, “sharp” means “smart.” In fact, “smart cookie” is also a common expression in American English. The two phrases mean the same thing.
