The most interesting part of you talking about the course is really seeing your excitement and how passionate you are about literature and language! That is probably what sets you apart from a good to an excellent student. You can tell the course was a perfect fit for you
The Shakespeare paper has now become a portfolio you have to write made up of three essays you write during the term, replacing the portfolio she talked about in second year. The set text at the moment has changed to Antony and Cleopatra. You have to write a selection of essays on different Shakespeare texts - at least one of them has to be mostly on Antony and Cleopatra but the other two can be on any topics you like. Some colleges just let you chose a topic but others give you vague areas to look at - like 'Bodies and Selves' or 'Page to Stage'. The 'glossing' part that she mentioned is now not required and you do the Shakespeare and the Prac Crit at the end of first year, not second.
Thank you for this, Emma. I’ve just received an English offer for Cambridge next year, and I’m over the moon! Like you, I’ve not had an opportunity like this before; I couldn’t believe Cambridge would accept somebody like me! This has been a great introduction to the course.
I am a literature student and I am so glad to find your cuz I came from education background and I knew nothing about Literature,English Literature Please make a video about how your write your Essays or Thesis, I saw you only have one of the video talking about that, but how to find resources and more...thanks and love from Indonesia
Are there any recommended textbooks or such that are followed or used for the Practical Criticism and Critical Practice paper, or is it entirely a study-by-doing thing during and for supervisions? Do you have to date the texts for your examinations? How is the dating process actually taught? It would be great if you did a video on this.
The post-colonial paper sounds so interesting! It's a shame I could only take one or two optional papers in final year because there were so many other papers I would've loved to have studied📚
Yes, we do! We go to the same lectures (all 150-200 of us) and seminars (smaller group teaching like 10-15 people) together at our department site. Then I had additional teaching in even smaller groups (around 1-4 people) in college😊😊
@@EmmaLouiseVlogs Do supervisions happen with your fellow students who's also taking the same course and are in the same year as you? Thank you for answering btw!
I’m two years late to your video, so please pardon my question. Does the English course have a reading list of specific texts of each time period that a student must read?
for each video from you Emma-Louise I WILL NOT USE THE MUTE BOTTON! ...You with chalk and a Cupboard ,guess who is very early in the klassroom😱 Ms. can you turn back into the kitchen and overbet yourself with a unique meal?
