Definitely. One of the few bands that have pricked my interest recently. Great musicianship and Lily is charismatic (and a cutie but that's a personal opinion)
There was a time when every Jools series included at least one, sometimes several performances which I would replay over and over, louder and louder - even back when that meant rewinding the VHS tape! This is the first one for a long time; fabulous.
Did you catch her quick wink at the end? She definitely knows they are good, which is great. Love how at last there’s something fresh. Perhaps there needs to be broader music history lessons for budding youngsters to avoid the derivative trap; these guys and this gal clearly know their history and how to embrace it without being derivative.
Just listened to the album after watching this. Oh my! They are extremely talented songwriters with a lot of genius harmonic twists and turns with great lyrics. “You blister my paint” is such a brilliant metaphor…damn! It’s all extremely musical and actually something quite new. Not that it matters but I’m a 72 year old composer and it’s extremely inspiring to hear something that rises above the generic. Great stuff!!!!
Discovered this last night. Love it. Also discovered they were playing an hour down the road from me. Dang. Coolest looking guitarist in aeons. Absolute sass up front. Love everything about the lead singer.
Saw these guys supporting Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year and have been keeping an eye on them ever since. Really great band with one of those singers you just can't take your eyes off (no hetero). Looking forward to seeing what's next with them
Same. I downloaded this track over a year ago I'd say and thought it was brill then. Glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves now even if it took longer than it should have.
The best new track I've heard this year... Fantastico! Shades of 1980...Au Pairs etc, but these days no bad thing. They have their own unique energy :-)
I love how they ride those influences into the modern day. I'd love to understand more what makes their vibe so modern. I know I'm missing a lot because I'm not up with recent (last twenty years!) music. That a band can make me want to discover more contemporary music is quite the feat!
Nah. It's perfect. JUST enough there to open it up and then restore the attention, which isn't just great structure, it also brings you back to listen again.
Extraordinary. Only just found out about them this afternoon & instantly tried to find a gig & bagged a ticket for their November O2 Shepherds Bush Empire gig xx
Can't wait for the album next year and will 100% hope to catch them live at a gig or festival. Love that Lily is from a local town to me as well...excellent keep up the amazing work.
This band are SOMETHING ELSE. Its so so so rare to hear a band for the first time and be blown away. The last time it happened for me was 20 years ago with Interpol. But this English teacher are making beautiful beautiful music and deserve all the acolades that are sure to come. ❤
Wow! I’ve heard the studio version hundreds of times playing FIFA but this is HEAPS better. Amazing stuff. Also loving the Jefferson airplane influence.
Tip of the iceberg for ET. Seen them twice live now and they are just ace - lovely folk - top musicians across the board and Lily Fontaine is set to be the world biggest smallest celebrity as they build to debut album release next year. See you in Bedford (twinned with Leeds, ask Yard Act) in Feb😎🤘🏼
ET! 😂 Are they? Yes they are. From this "universe". And from other parallel universe... From every (where... all our melomaniac ears delight!) This is brilliant!!!! ET is brilliant!!!❤❤❤
I've not watched Jools Holland regularly for a few years and this is the sort of band I liked to see on there but thought didn't get on any more, more variety in general is a good thing
This came up on my feed and even with no sound I was intrigued by the bass player. These are great. Seems to be some good bands coming through at the minute with genuinely talented musicians, rather than just cool posers.
