After watching this drama 4X, I believe that Duan Jiaxi developed a soft spot for Sang Zhi ever since they met. He just didn’t recognized it since she was very young at that time.

He has for sure a soft spot for her since the start, otherwise he wouldn't have indulged her. However he's not a pervert, so the feeling he had for her when she was still a minor was definitely not the same feeling that Sangzhi had for him. Sangzhi's feeling was not love, she's still too young to have such a deep affection but it was atleast a crush between a female towards a male, but it's a normal thing for a teenager. Everyone of us must have that crush and some could lead into a puppy love. And a few of us were even lucky enough to end up marrying the puppy love we once had. But what he had for her was in fact a genuine familial affection. He was living like an orphan for so long and experienced the feeling of being abandoned and hated by basically everyone around him in his hometown. Even his teacher who onced proud of his academic performance had let him being bullied for years. The whole Sang family was the only one giving him warmth and Sangzhi's adoration was giving him that feeling of being useful, needed, loved..sincerely, unselfishly. He has a good brother, a good uncle and aunty, and then an adorable little sister who adores him. If I were on his shoes, I would have certainly have a soft spot for a girl like Sangzhi as well. And I might have even grown up a feeling that there's no man worthy of her either, just like how her daddy and brother would feel. He only saw her in a different light after she was an adult and the turning point was most likely when she stood up for him at the moment Jiangyi assaulted him. At that moment he probably just realized that Sangzhi is no longer a little girl who once always need protection, but she could also be brave enough to protect someone she cares about. And her unconditional support and trust for him, without even knowing about the issues, had definitely touched him hardly. Only those who cares genuinely would have that kind of unconditional trust, and for this girl, he might devote his life too...as whatever she wanted him to be. With his circumstance, I doubt that he would dare to have any wishful thinking of getting married with a good lady of a good household afterall. In their culture, marriage is not only between the couple in love but it'S an union of 2 families... so he certainly doesn't have that confidence, no matter which girl it is. So... it's somehow a given that the girl is the one who needs to make a move first. Sangzhi was very wise when she told him that his father's sin has nothing to do with him. That opened his eyes...

exactly@@todayiglowup4286 . That'S the issue. It gave a feeling as if he's grooming her. It's really sick if he was eyeing her when she's a minor while he's already an adult, and that'S what they're doubting..cos it would have been really inappropriate. One can even think of a mental issue: whether he has a pedophile tendency secretly. It would have been strange if they directly accept their relationship. They need time and they need to be convinced that he was not targeting her when she's a minor but in fact it was her who liked him first secretly. 5 years seems a big gap when the male is adult and the girl is a minor... but 10 years gap is fine if they're both already adults. It wouldnt seem that far anymore. One can put him in jail if he's targeting her while she was still a minor even if the gap is only 5 years.

@@bereniceg777 I think their strange feeling comes more because of the fact that he watched her growing up. Because she was still a little girl, a minor, when he was already an adult. He was a little sister for their group of brothers. It gave them definitely a goosebumps while doubting whether Jiaxu had already eyeing her when she was still a minor... It feels weird because it gave a feeling as if he was grooming her until she's ready. It makes them worried if he was somehow a bit like a pedophile. The effect would have been different if they just met and get to know each others after she's already an adult. At their circumstance, it would have been more strange if they could accept their relationship without any scrupples directly after the revelation. It's absolutely normal if it would take a bit more time for them to accept the fact that they're together. Because one can only talk about "childhood sweetheart" if both parties are still children when they spend time together. Their case was certainly not childhood sweetheart. And it's only good because she was the one who liked him first in the past, and not reverse... Otherwise, it's really not appropriate.
