Just a word of warning. The bike you tested is prone to snapping and the reason is the brace at the top and bottom of the frame by the the hinge. On the top of your test bike the brace only goes from the seat post to about 3/4 length to the hinge and the same on the underside of the frame. They updated on later models by extending the brace to the hinge on top and the bottom making it stronger. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW on early models. The same applies to early engine pro models too and EP2 pro I think.
Does this apply to the new model of the ep 2 pro? The latest one they are selling essentially. Because I literally got one just yesterday and even tho I love it what people have been saying on their fb page its quite worrying. Here on yt nobody talks about it.
As mentioned on another of your videos. I had an Engwe EP-2. The frame is made from an alloy and is not strong. When you fold the bike, all the weight of the front end is on the back end, just behind the hinge. The soft alloy is not strong enough to support that weight. After riding the bike almost every day, for 2.5 years, mine snapped. These bikes are a death trap waiting to happen. When I contacted Engwe, they apologised, and asked me if I wanted to buy another bike. They claimed they have strengthened their testing, but I haven't seen any specs on the alloy used.
the lack of apps and stuff is not a drawback, it's a good thing. I have a question: you didn't test hills. in steep hills if you need to walk with the bike. does it have walking mode to support it's weight. otherwise it's useless in hilly areas
@@annashealthylifeeverything8583yes there *is* a walking mode. Select 0 power level, then keep the *-* button pressed in. It then powers the motor at a steady walking pace.
Very good review! I have been looking at this bike as a replacement for car since i only have 6km each day. But my only concern is my height. Can i ask how tall you are and how good you feel riding in that height? Im 195cm so i have a feeling im too tall for a bike like this. Ty.
Thanks for the comment. I also wish I had more time for reviews, but given the preparation and work around each and every one, this is the best I can provide right now. If someone is keen on joining me in the journey to inspect cool tech - reach out via email ☺️
Great honest review. I own a Engine Pro, and I can disable the throttle and set the speed limit to 25 km/ hour. So logically, both Engine pro and Engine X are legal or both are not legal.
I observed both at my local dealer, and X has a sort of plaque claiming it is compliant to EU something something, and electric engine is marked with "250W" (I'm not sure if you can limit power output in Pro?) As funny as it sounds it could be the one real advantage in case you are stopped for legality checks. You can just point at these as it's not very likely that a policeman will dive deep into settings details. That said Pro has hydraulic brakes. That makes you think should you prefer objectively safer bike betting on not being ever checked, or less safe, but visibly legal. Depending on a probability of such checks in your country you may want to chose less safe... because of the regulation intended to promote safety :)
In Denmark the police dont care if you have disabled throttle or set the maxspeed to 25km. It is still not certified to eu/ce standards. Its like building your own bike and mounting a motor. There is still a lot of regulation to get streetlegal.
I tried to read and understand the german website but couldn't because of the bad google translation. About the twist gas, do i understand it correctly that it is either disabled or only supportrs up to 6kph?
I think the Engine Pro is the best deal. for only 200 bucks more you get hydraulic brakes, hydraulic suspension fork, 8 gears Shimano Alto, leather handle bar grip, 16Ah LG battery for longer range, anti puncture tires, color display, and not sure if also has regen power when braking. The engine is also 1000w peak and 55 Nm tork. All in all, much better than the Engine X. Coud you review the Engine Pro?
Therein lies the problem, if you can unlock the top speed and enable the throttle then it doesn't comply with UK and EU regulations or so I've been told.
The motor is the same as the ep-2, just limited to 25km per hour.. My question is since they measure the power going trough the motor cable here in the Netherlands, won’t the motor still pull 750w up to 25km/h? Cause that would mean it gets impounded here
@@weloverotie2573 word lastig hoor, ze meten met ringmaster hier in Amsterdam vriend van me heeft fietsenwinkel en de ep2s worden echt heel vee in beslag genomen
Then impound something from police too like radio or something or just deny impounding. Over excessive bureaucracy is enough already. 750-1000w should be norm hauling cargo not some puny 250w. Laws have to be forced to change that is matching with real world scenarios not some politician law from office who knows nothing.
Done 900 miles on mine, I have the previous model 750w single suspension. The only MAGER and DEADLY issue I've faced is the breaks. They are truly terrible and caused me to crash once during my travels. They do need adjusting far to often to ensure safety. Apart from that great bike, ridden in all weather conditions very heavy rain and still going.
@@leePerson62 I am playing the one email a day game with Engwe "customer support" trying to send it back. After joining an Engwe owners group on Facebook and reading some of the horror stories some owners are having .There is no way I am keeping it. They have until Tuesday to give me a returns label or I open a dispute with Paypal and my credit card company.
