Many hearing aid users still struggle to hear in complex listening situations, like background noise, despite consistent use of appropriately fitted hearing aids. Because hearing aids and cochlear implants do not cure hearing loss, additional tools may be needed to help supplement or enhance auditory signals. Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are some such tools that can be used with or without hearing aids or CIs to enhance speech or other non-speech auditory signals (i.e. doorbells, alarms). In this Better Hearing Webinar, UNC HCC fourth year doctoral externs, Nicole Oldrati and Zachary LaBarth, discuss the ins and outs of ALDs.
