Hey friends! In this video I show you a few ways that you can use templates in Ableton Live to help speed up your workflow!

neat! one thing you could also consider including: you can open multiple windows of Ableton (idk if this is an issue on windows, but it is on MacOS) using a terminal command, which lets you copy paste things between a template and your existing session without having to close one and open the other. this fixes one of the problems I always tend to have where I make some change, and then realize I want to make that same change in the default template, but then I have to close my existing project, change it in the new file, save that as a template, then reopen my current project. it also makes it easier to propagate changes if you're the type that has multiple templates, not just the default Also, all of this stuff applies to plugins in addition to project templates. I can't remember if you've done a video on device / plugin presets, but the combination of both is extra powerful. That way you can make an update to a device in an active project, save that version as a preset, and simply add that preset to your template when you open it to avoid the above!

Excellent!! I've never tried opening multiple windows but I can definitely see how that's super useful! Thanks for sharing! 😁 Actually a video on saving presets is probably a really good idea, I'll put that one down on the ideas list. ☺️

Never even thought about importing parts of templates, even though I have imported things from other projects before. Good stuff! Thank you

I’m exactly at that moment where I want to compose orchestral music on Ableton and everybody tells me to move (back) to Logic or Cubase but I love Ableton so much that I stick to it. Your video convinces me even more. Thank you.

If you're working to film then Ableton can be a bit tricky to sync up, but other than that I find its workflow fantastic for orchestral stuff, especially now with the CC Control MIDI effect! Thanks for watching and I'm glad the video was useful! ☺️

Thanks Matt this is great. I do a similar thing with group tracks to preserve routings and settings then just drag the group to the browser window with a designated folder for track setups. But this feels a lot more intuitive and the template stores greater amounts of information.

Saving groups is also a great idea! I love using the template option because it feels like having a folder for my group tracks and presets, and like you said there's more information you can store! 😁

Hi Matt, Great video. Do you know if it's possible to set it up so that new tracks are "preset"? I find I am always having to pull down the levels on my tracks to keep from slamming the Main Out and it would be nice if a new track, both midi and audio can just be added at -6dB as a preset.

Hey Scott! Yep, this is totally possible. All you need to is set up the track as you want it, then right click on the track and select "save as default audio/MIDI track". I have a whole video about it here. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8OA2uXJXt6Y.html
