32:32 there is a difrence between figure skating and ice skating. Heeseung is good at ice skating. But figure skating is a difrent thing. Just like there is a difrence between running and dancing.
I watch one of his interview in RU-vid and he said while he was training as an idol before I-Land he was still doing figure skating training and competition at the same time. He is so beautiful to watch when he is skating. Did you noticed he was wearing his figure skating competition skates. While everyone is using the rented skates. I’m so glad that they use his talent. This is his element 🥰💕.
Makes sence he would use those skates. Number 1. Its his skates. So just saves some money. 2. Emotional connection to them probably. Like a nostalgia thing. 3. and most important probably. Figure skates and hockey skates are difrent and are used difrently. My sister had a big struggle when she switched between the difrent skates beacuse you Get used to one way of skating and suddenly you Get new skates and have to skate in a totaly difrent way. Its like using a gear shift car. Then an automatic. And then gear shift again. You kinda forget and have to learn again. Tho of course not as big as a learning curve as the first time.
Also kinda hard to figure skate with hockey skates so. Lmao. Hockey skates are a lot stiffer. Made with more metal and plastic. Figure skates are usualy softer and more flexible. With leather or something of the sort. If i remember correctly.
People used to throw roses for figure skaters but it was banned because there will be like debris(?) left on ice because of the roses so people just throw stuffed animals now. I might be wrong though. The helmet is for recording lol
you're right about the debris, but I have seen thoroughly plastic-wrapped roses/flowers thrown. Plushies are more common, though (well, were more common pre-covid. Currently nothing is allowed)
I can't skate myself but I'm a pretty big figure skating fan. I think just skating around without doing anything too fancy is 'like riding a bike' (I've heard skaters call themselves better at skating than walking, lol), and Sunghoon probably didn't prepare off-camera except warming up for a few minutes, but his performance was noticeably simpler than his competitive programs or what we saw from I-land. I really hope they do an episode like this, or at least get him time to skate, every year! :3 It would be nice if skaters could protect their heads (they definitely still fall a lot, though not usually hitting their heads), but don't helmets not actually help that much? Like, football players still get concussions because it's actually the impact of your brain hitting the inside of your skull, right? :\ lol Sunghoon definitely had an advantage in the race by being alone. XD But I wouldn't want him to lose his title anyway! ;) I was thinking they should make him go backwards.
