There's something vaguely Harry Potterish about all of this. The servants of the demon guy sound like Horcruxes cuz they have bits of his life force/soul in them, and the weapon sounds like the Elder Wand, since it's passed from person to person when one person is killed, but with the Sword of Gryffindor's ability to destroy Horcuxes.
