If you like Johann Strauß (jr), I can recommend the ouverture to "Die Fledermaus" which is a really fun, short piece of music! Strauß is delightful in general. Not super deep, but definitely deeper than people often give him credit for, and an absolute genius at coming up with melodies. This is not the best recording of this piece, slightly to aggressive, which is a pity; usually, Robert Stolz really _gets_ this type of music, so Stolz recordings are almost always worthy a listen. His recordings from the RCA "Wiener Musik" box set (all available on RU-vid) are my first address when it comes to anything composed by the Strauß family (not to be confused with Richard Strauss, with whom you're familiar by now of course), and usually either the best one available, or at least one of the best.

I would love to see Medtner reactions. Some of his sonatas and his second piano concertos are some of my favorite works in the piano literature. I would also love to see opera reactions sometime. I'd LOVE to see a reaction to Bellini's "Norma", especially since you have made a reaction of Liszt's piano fantasy of said work.

Yes Gidi, Johann Strauss (senior) was a composer and his son Johann Strauss (junior) composed too! It was a musical family, although Richard Strauss was not related to them at all. And yes, this is a dance piece, a waltz. Not really a complicated piece for the ballet but for the ballroom where aristocrats can dance to it!

Love seeing Gidi waltzing, if only his head...

Johann Strauss Sohn is for me the greatest, among the Strauss Dynastie. Composed so many beautiful dances and rhythms.

Man how I wish you are listening to the Carlos Kleiber 1987 New Year version of this. Vastly superior.
