Enjoying DK Special Bele Vade/Holige | ಹಳೆ ಕಾಲದ ತಿಂಡಿ | Jack seed Holige | Halasina bele hoolige
Friends, it is a very traditional tasty and healthy dish. We usually call it as bele holige or bele vade (sweet in taste). It is prepared by using jackseeds. old/preserved jackseeds give good taste than fresh jackseeds. Peel all the skins, cook the jackseeds well and grind them with jaggery and grated coconut. For outer cover, we use rice batter in flowing consistency. make balls of the ground mixture, flatten them and dip in rice batter and finally cook them on the hot tava. The process looks somewhat tedious, but the taste will be awesome. Ghee becomes the best combination for it.

cardamom (optional)
salt to taste
raw rice
water
ghee
oil for greasing

It is also a fact that doing things together, kept families together. Self centredness is condoned now, even tacitly encouraged. As a child, I remember relatives gathering prior to festivals and family celebrations, to prepare for the occasion. So long as my great grandparents were around, and after them, my grandmother. Thereafter ☺️ western practices began to be adopted and everyone seems to have wandered off to different parts of the world
