Splenomegaly is an enlarged spleen. This can cause stomach discomfort, decreased blood flow and filtering, and anemia.
Symptoms-
An enlarged spleen typically cause no signs or symptoms, but sometimes it causes-
Pain or fullness in the left upper belly that can spread to the left shoulder.
A feeling of fullness without eating or after eating a small amount because the spleen is pressing on your stomach.
Low Red bleed cells (anemia)
Frequent infection Bleeding easily
Cause-
Viral infection such as mononucleosis
Bacterial infection such as syphilis, Endocarditis
Parasitic infection such as malaria
Cirrhosis and other disease affecting the liver
Various type of hemolytic anemia
Blood cancers and Hodgkin’s diseases
Autoimmune conditions such as lupus or sarcodosis

Watchful waiting-
If you have enlarged spleen but don’t have symptoms and the cause can’t be found doctor might suggest watchful watching.
Spleen removal surgery -
If an enlarged spleen causes serious complications or the cause can’t be identified or treated surgery to remove your spleen might be an option in chronic disease or critical cases might offer the best hope for recovery.
