Already seeing some comments of like "omg ANOTHER depressing video!? enough!" I see you, I hear you - but look... it IS LIFE. If someone else can even for a MOMENT feel like they are seen, I am glad to have uploaded it. I am SICKENINGLY grateful for my life, which is WHY i want to feel well. This is mental and physical illness. If i said nothing, they would say "She should have said something instead of suffering in silence" if I say something I am "depressing and ungrateful and negative" - There is NO winning. You can't have it both ways. But what I WILL do is continue to be authentic to what I am going through, good and bad. I thank the lord EVERY day for this blessed life, for this child I get to have, for our land, friends, family, what health I DO have. I have an updated video Wednesday that goes over what has happened since. I had my doctors appointment already and she is running SHIT TONS of bloodwork, I also have an EMDR appointment scheduled for Thursday on TOP of my twice weekly therapy. I am working hard and just sharing that. If it is distressing for you to hear, you are free to leave.

I’m chronically ill I got my diagnosis Jan of 2021 and was so excited thinking now I’ll get to feel better and the doctors will be able to help but nope it’s a very rare disease and no doctors close to me has any experience. This disease can kill me and not a thing I can do to stop it. I feel like I seem to complain and talk about my health a lot but you know what I don’t care I feel like crap 24 7 and can’t help it. “Food is morally neutral, but it is not physically neutral” this is such a perfect way to describe it! We don’t have to beat ourselves up because we have a doughnut but we can acknowledge it made us feel like shit after eating it and over indulging in that won’t make us feel better in the long run

Oh that is SO good and so true. Interestingly…there are a lot of well meaning people who are speaking about the harms of diet culture, who sometimes shame people for caring about what they eat because of how it makes them feel! It’s not helping to swing the pendulum. It’s hurtful and tone deaf to not acknowledge people with chronic illnesses who truly have to be very careful what they eat!

Intersting. I think it's all about one's perspective. As a woman without kids (by choice) I feel very unsupported because almost everything is geared towards moms and families. Listen to any political message (left or right) or public figure and they will always sight "families." So I guess if yur a single adult person, yur just on yur own and don't matter. Different lens based on personal situations.
@janelle_beans
@janelle_beans Год назад
@@luvzdogz I agree that perspective can change a lot of things, but our society completely devalues moms. Their literal value goes down in the workforce which a dads' will skyrocket and will be seen as more reliable in the workforce because now they have a 'family to feed.' Childcare prices are outrageous (I know because I used to work for a private one) and there is a lack of providers who want to put up with the parents. Parents also have a severe lack of resources compared to other countries, much less their own right to their bodily autonomy with the ways that legislation in the USA is heading.

I'm a therapist and I'm currently working in an intensive program for moms struggling with rough pregnancies and postpartum mental illness, and I cannot tell you how often I hear my clients say everything you're saying. It truly breaks my heart because you're right, no one cares about moms and instead everyone expects moms to hold up the world and just be okay and withstand everything. And then, of course, shame moms when they struggle to do that. It's really disheartening and honestly emotionally painful, and the best I can do is give my mommas a safe space to exist and feel heard. This is a big societal problem that's very deeply rooted into the health care system and it just frustrates me to no end. Hell, people don't even know that postpartum psychosis and OCD are a thing, despite how truly traumatic and dangerous those things can be. These things are so overlooked and dismissed, and it's horrifying, honestly. So I truly appreciate you speaking up and advocating for yourself and other women who have struggled with similar things. You don't need me or anyone else to tell you this, but you have every right to say what you feel and be honest about it, and it is far more appreciated than it is looked down on. I filled out a questionnaire about my mental health every time, but it was very clear that the survey was for the child’s protection. It wasn’t about my ability to live well, it was about me potentially harming the baby. Obviously that is the most important…but the priority was her health, every time. Thank you for your honesty. It's so refreshing. I'm new to your channel, and I appreciate how much you shared. I also live with chronic pain, depression and anxiety (just to mention a few). I've found thru my own health journey that I had to take control with my doctors and demand tests, etc. Not that it's been easy. And I still don't have all the answers. But I want you to know that I can relate to waking up and feeling sick every day. It's almost impossible to do that year after year without some hope. What breaks my heart is how much our medical system is meant to just suppress symptoms. It’s always take this and that but rarely figuring out how to actually heal it. I suffer from extreme migraines and joint pain as well as endometriosis. It took me 6 years to finally get diagnosed with endometriosis, and FINALLY found a doctor to help me with it instead of only taking birth control (which made me depressed). I finally feel like I can be okay during a period and not feel like I’m dying. As for my joint pain and severe migraines. I’m struggling to figure it out. I keep getting muscle relaxers and hydrocodones but I seriously just want to heal it. So I seriously appreciate you posting this. I feel heard and like I can relate. Omg this video was honestly needed! I am 44yrs old and have had depression most of my life , started living in chronic pain when I was 28 while having 3 young kids and I just kept getting diagnosis after diagnosis. The whole winter is shit because I was sick from Nov-Jan w/bronchitis, than right after an upper respiratory infection, than got sick 2 more times. April comes and I’m like finally going to a little less pain and less sickness. I had gotten sick the last time and a month long period , I hadn’t had one since November. I had a FN breakdown to the point my anxiety/depression meds wasn’t working, and left 2 friends balling my eye’s out ready to give tf up. I’m so sick of the doctor appointments,the medications and just feeling like I’m a burden and literally live in my bed and miss out on so much. People in the CP community are giving up and if their state doesn’t have euthanasia, they’ll travel bc they just can’t live like this. I have 2 grandchildren and my daughter is a single mom,so I need to be their for her plus I have a wonderful husband and 2 sons one who needs me because he’s autistic. I’m so thankful for this life I’m giving I’m lucky but boy was it so fn hard! What makes me the most upset is seeing this comment section saying shit about you talking about this!? I, like so many here, can relate. I like hearing you say you refuse and send back the life you don't want. I say that all the time. I will say this; self care is NOT just baths and massages. It's doing things just for the joy of it. Picking flowers. Drawing badly because it's fun. Painting things purple because you like it. Not because you will reach a goal, but just because you want to. It's an extension of mindfulness and gratitude. You speak, and I hear myself. You explain, and I already know what you'll say. I have a very harsh inner critic as well, and I'm working on that. But I've realized that even mental health and healing aren't done because there's an end goal. It's lifelong and requires maintenance, reworking, redesign, and grace. Knowing I will always be a work in progress gave me a chance to pause and appreciate how far I've come. To embody the shifts I've managed to make and feel somatically, what is happening as I integrate the things I KNOW about myself. And accept that the work will never end, but can be a source of happiness as opposed to another way to beat myself down for all I haven't done, or figured out, or healed... Going to a functional medicine doctor sounds like a great idea. I'm rooting for you! You're a beautiful soul, and I'm so happy you're here.

Hi Kristi! Long time listener, first time caller here. I just wanted to say thank you first and foremost for everything you are sharing about maternal mental health/maternal health in general. You are so right that the priority is always on the baby and that mothers/birthing people are neglected, and that’s absolutely not okay. I did want to share a word of caution regarding functional medicine doctors. Someone I love dearly has gone to one for years who doesn’t seem to be helping her. It seem like a lot of what they do (from my admittedly limited anecdotal experience) is charge you a ton of money and suggest expensive supplements that they get kickbacks on. I’m absolutely not trying to discourage you from seeking answers, but this video also reminded me of the state of mind I am in when my health anxiety is at its worst. I am not saying at all that there’s nothing wrong, but as a fellow sufferer, it was hard to watch for that reason because it reminded me of being in that painful, desperate place. Also, as someone who has a background in social work, if you go to therapy twice a week and it’s not helping, might I gently suggest trying a different therapist or modality? I know a lot of people find DBT helpful, as an alternative to CBT. I hope this comment doesn’t come across as condescending or critical, because that’s absolutely not my intent. I know you are an intelligent person who is quite capable of making informed decisions on the subject. I just wanted to present a point of view that I hadn’t seen shared in this comment section yet. Again, I really appreciate you and your content. Thank you so much for speaking about such difficult topics with honesty and grace.

Though I did find it odd that she had PCOS and her Dr has never checked her hormones, and that she’s post partum and they’ve never checked her iron. I am Australian though and a nurse so often go in knowing the pathology I want and the rationale as to why. However I wouldn’t be shocked if the cluster headaches are a manifestation of stress etc. I’m not anti functional medicine Dr’s, I wholeheartedly do believe they have a place particularly when western medicine isn’t solving the issue AND the issue isn’t life threatening. Kristi, you keep saying people complain about health videos or don’t want to hear it. I want to say as someone who has health anxiety and chronic health problems, your videos are a lifeline. Watching them makes me feel so much less alone and makes me feel like there’s hope. I can’t even imagine all the struggles you’re going through with all those discouraging conditions, but watching you make plans and succeed in prioritizing your health is inspiring. I am sure for every comment like this that I’m writing, there are 10 lurkers who feel the same way and who just got up to do their physical therapy exercises or eat their healthy meal or go get some steps in because of your videos. Also, you are honestly really brave speaking up for mothers. I am absolutely sickened by how mothers seem to be some of the least valued people in society when they are literally providing more value than almost anyone else. And the shit you get for pointing this out! It is *literally* like you are seen as an incubator and not a human being with intrinsic value. Not to mention from a more utilitarian perspective, WHO is supposed to care for the baby if mom is withering away due to medical neglect? In most cases, it’s not gonna be dad! So even if they actually really don’t care about mom at all and just the baby, this is a stupid approach. Keep speaking out. Your voice is so important!

Hey, ladies! I just wanted to remind you all to please have your ferritin levels checked. Ferritin is the iron level in your body (not your blood), and it is critically important in keeping your mind and body healthy. Iron deficiency is one of the most under-diagnosed disorders in women and also one of the most easily treatable. Some of the effects of an iron deficiency are low mood, depressive thoughts, brain fog, memory problems, fatigue (you are tired even after sleeping enough), heart palpitations, headaches, migraines, compromised immune system (constantly being sick), inability to stay warm (cold hands and feet), hair loss, breathlessness (short of breath), dizziness, acne, just to name a few. Weirdly, when I had my iron deficiency my scalp would also hurt. I am not saying Kristi has an iron deficiency, I just wanted to highlight the importance of getting your levels checked if you have any of these symptoms because they are so generalized they are often attributed to something else. Have a good day, everyone! (Edited to include a few more iron deficiency symptoms I thought of later)

I second this! The regular blood test will tell you if you're anemic, but not HOW anemic. I had a follow up ferritin level test and I was beyond anemic. Since starting iron supplements (I use Thorne Iron Bisglysinate and tolerating well) I am a new person and have actually come off my low level buproprion. This comment is the REAL DEAL! PAY ATTENTION!

There is also a blood disease called hemochromatosis, which causes pretty much the exact same symptoms but it is when you have way too much iron in your blood. So either way make sure your iron levels are healthy💜

Blackstrap molasses - a spoonful in milk, absorbable iron so no constipation. I was diagnosed anemic while pregnant, was prescribed iron, tossed the script and got blackstrap, anemic no more!

Finding a good functional doctor can change your life! The holistic approach they take has change so many women’s lives I know. Most of them found out that their hormones are so out of wack and hormone replacement therapy has changed their lives. I hope you keep us updated because your so loved and we want you to feel better. ❤

I'm so glad that you keep making these videos promoting mental health, and taking care of yourself. When you're a mom, and feeling depressed, it's SO HARD to be "happy" and "upbeat" all day around our children, it takes everything from us to be present for our children, that we have nothing left for ourselves. I've felt that way many times in the 3 years that I've been a mom. I just haven't taken the leap and gotten help. Please continue to do whatever videos you want to. Screw the haters, they can leave

This right here is why I watch you. You don't give a shit what people think about you. I love to hear about others lives and how they are doing, what are they going through. I feel a lot of this!!

Wow. This is the exact video I needed this week. I feel heard. Like you get so tired of just having symptoms treated but not addressing the actual cause. Thank you.

I can't even begin to explain how much i relate. Some people may not understand and may not "want to hear it" but they can click off. Coming from someone that has benefitted so much from hearing your experiences, please don't stop on the account of the ones that don't benefit. Again, thank you so much for sharing everything you have. It means the world to those of us that do understand.

This video is an example of why I love your channels. Not only are you talented with makeup and developing content but when you share more personal issues I feel less alone. Thank you.
