The divine Caruso.... I've spent about 20 years with my father (he's been a tenor too at his times) telling me every tecnical and interpretative detail about the Caruso's way of singing. Well, for my father's experience, Enrico was absolutely unbeatable for any tenor, who ever it was, who came after him. The exquisit technique, the pathos, the expression and not less, the tear in his voice were all unarrivable for any other tenor no matter how good they use to be. Caruso was simply able to do anything with his voice. Extraterrestrial? I think it will be an eternal mistery, but what is sure, is that he had an incredibly unique voice and he knew perfectly how to use it.
My father sang many if these songs during my childhood. He was a trained opera singer and did his service in Riccione, west side of Italy at the end of the war. He was offered a position at La Scala for when he finished guarding pows after the war ended. All He wanted was to go home to my mother, he did regret not taking the offer up later in life, he kept the offer which was in writing for many years. Hearing these songs brings me to tears.
Like the corresopndent above I thought Luciano could never be surpassed but given the remastering Enrico has it by miles. You can simply tell. Magnifico.

with the age of 15 my father took me to the film with him the "great Caruso". Emotional his singing had touched me as a young girl very much and made me sing in front of my class trying to perform in his way at school several times out of the blue as strong imitating Caruso... Great to enjoy him again and again...
