This is me. I suffer from severe ENS after having what was described as a routine surgery, a septoplasty and turbinate reduction/resection in March 2020. I suffer every minute of every day since then in a never ending cycle of horrific nasal dryness and complete loss of functionality of my nose. My nasal mucous lining was cut and cauterized. As a result, my nose does not warm the air, it does not humidity the air. It does not filter the air. The air I breathe is cold, dry and painful. I cannot sleep. My body jolts awake every few hours. I am trapped in a nightmare that never ends and my surgeon dismissed my complaints, saying “Everything looks fine.” It is almost one year later with no improvement. This horrific, surgery has destroyed my quality of life in every way. Empty Nose Syndrome is real. Do not allow anyone you love to get a Turbinate Reduction. Thank you for sharing your story. I am sorry for your loss.

@@sandeepgarcha4980 Hello sir I have a question. I cant find the previous reply you have written to my reply. My question is, do you have to let the doctor know what method you want your turbinates to be reduced with(cauterization, SMR, etc.) on the day of the procedure or do you have to let them know before hand? Because in my case, my ENT did not go over which specific procedure he will use for my septoplasty/turbinate reduction. All I know from reading the procedure schedueling form is that both procedures are outpatient.

Medical gaslighting at it's worst. Sadly many who have had surgical turbinate Injury/Ens are shunned away by brainwashed ENTs who thinks toying with essential organs is scientifically sound. Attorney firms and legislators should be more aware of what's going on as these cases will continue to increase. Patients who have no idea how complex turbinates are to the human body are the main targets.(General population has no clue what turbinates even are). What's worse is that these surgeries do not address the root problem and can have long term devastating injuries that cannot be reversed. They are even marketing these dangerous procedures to children. How sick these monsters are. All in the name of "health care" and keeping ENTs busy doing unecessary non essential procedures for the sake of $$$.

ENT seem to dismiss me like I'm a "princess and the pea" situation. I am NOT. I go through so much that nobody will EVER know. ringing ears. constant tightness in my head. Well this lockdown has given me the chance to really focus on this and go to the ENT. I've gone for 3 visits and it's always just kind of routine prescriptions like "try flonase." Like I've done everything already so I suggested surgery. The ENT says I could do a turbinate reduction and rhinoplasty. Well now all these videos are keeping me up and it seems that messing with the turbinates is just bad news!

This was almost my fate as well. I lost the ability to sleep. Dryness pain and suffocation set in and worsened to the point where after 4 years of battling all of the same ignorance by the medical field I too was considering suicide. I went from an avid hiker to barely being able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. I too had to learn about Empty Nose Syndrome myself by finding it online. I went to multiple ENT doctors, I went for multiple sleep studies, I even went to the emergency room after I collapsed after trying to take a nap in 2012. I couldn't even stand up. Sleeping was not sleep as most people know it. It is a BEATING. Your own nervous system wears you down until your muscles are wasting away. My muscles felt like they were not even there or worse... like they were being attacked and eaten by something. There was no rest from ENS. The ignorance and hubris displayed by doctors in this field is horrid. There is NO protection for you as a patient. There are no limitations for these surgeries. They can do whatever they want to you. They perform extra procedures not disclosed and also different named procedures than what you agree to. It is common. They DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEIR OWN CRAFT! If they did there wouldn't be 3000 people on the facebook support page and several thousand others in other online groups with untold thousands of others struggling un-diagnosed. They don't know where your nerves are. Their schools teach 15 different ways to destroy turbinates but nothing about either rebuilding them or their function in autonomic breathing (while you sleep) They are mystified by instances of failure though there have been many! Studies have fully documented nasal sensation and feedback from the nose to the brain as driving breathing by deepening the inhale. Without this you sleep the sleep of the dead. Very shallow breaths that don't go anywhere. Your brain is in fight or flight mode not rest mode.E.N.T. doctors have no standards, their studies are conflicting and their organizations provide ZERO leadership. Any people that are left in the world who trust doctors, DON"T. Don't be ignorant. You probably think there is some large organization that oversees things and you are safe right? WRONG!! NO ONE GIVES A SHIT!!!! Not the American Medical Association, Not the American Board of Otolaryngology, Not the American Acadamy of Otolaryngology, not the ARS or American Rhinological Society. When you look into this, NOT ONE OF THEM claims any responsibility for setting any standards or rules. The A.M.A. is a lobbying group for...... DOCTORS! You can file a complaint but they have no power to pursue ANYTHING. They refer you to the A.B.O. who says "We just give tests", They refer you to the American Academy of Otolaryngology who says "We just write journal articles and suggestions". The A.R.S. says "We are just an educational Society..... well fucking great that is, but NO ONE IS IN CHARGE!!! This is a failure of education as their schools suck too. These guys have DECADES of shitty conflicting science and no standards for measuring much of any NON subjective data in their turbinate reduction studies on even the 3 basic functions of the nose such as humidification, warming, and filtering. No studies on sleep or cardio pulmonary function. Their turbinate reduction studies have basically been experimenting on humans. They cut stuff off, then they ask you if you can breathe more air through your nose. That is the extent of their science. Decades of these studies are non conclusive and conflicting. DO NOT TRUST THESE DOCTORS! This is an elective surgery. Try looking into food allergies such as wheat or dairy foods etc. Look into environmental allergies because once you get this It is 24-7 for the rest of your life! I work in Engineering and have done computer modeling so I did my own aerodynamics study after reading some that I found. My results matched their results. I published everything that I know about this surgically caused disease here: emptynosesyndromeaerodynamics.com/

I went to my surgeon today, I asked him how much of my tissue he removed. To which he replied he did not remove any but shrunk my turbinates with Radiofrequency which is the kindest (technically that’s reducing the tissue but okay) and he also outfractured them. (Didn’t know that. Hell no.)🤦🏻‍♀️ Lexa here on youtube had hers only outfractured and ended up with ENS. He dismissed my suggestion about my blood vessels or nerves being damaged and said it is normal to damage them while operating. Yeah sure but everyone heals differently and I asked him why then my nose is drying. Of course he couldn’t give me any explanation. He then proceeded to suggested to reduce my left turbinate even more and fix my septum, because the air flow in my left nostril is fucked up and it could also have an effect on the drying but he can’t promise because I will be angry at him. We’ll my primary problem is the drying and it’s affects. He totally dismissed what I told him about feeling dizzy and headaches, that can not be caused by my nose. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He was super defensive and that’s what angers me way more. I told him I am just trying to figure out what the problem is. And he replied we‘re on the same page then. He then proceeded to put spray in my nose against swelling even though it was not congested at this time. It made the resistance worse and air felt cold, gave my dizzyness and blurry vision. When I told him my nose and sinuses was infected last week and I cured it with garlic and tea he looked at my sinuses with ultrasonic to tell me they‘re free, yeah say what, now there fine again. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It‘s only when my mucosa dries out and is infected that I struggle hard with breathing. He also told me out of the blue: you‘re prone to infections. No I‘m not, I never had any sinus infections prior. Wtf. No wonder my lymph nodes are swollen when I mouth breathe at night. Thanks for nothing.

How terrible!!! I had multiple nasal cauterisations as a child. I remember a substance being sprayed in my nostrils then a sparkler being inserted. The reaction when both substances came into contact was to burn and smoulder. Extremely unpleasant. I also had a cauterisation when I was 19. So sorry to hear of the suffering caused by ENS. 😔😔😔

When you say she had her, "nose cauterized", I assume you mean she had her turbinates cauterized. I did, too. The surgery was unsuccessful (I had two subsequent blade surgeries), but I did avoid ENS. Had I see this video beforehand, I never would have had the cauterization. If you have turbinate reduction surgery, do not let the ENT completely remove the inferior turbinate. And ask him (he should know) to conserve as much of the mucosa, which warms and humidifies incoming air, as possible.

This is real I've been suffering with ens for the past year and honestly I can't take it anymore is so horrible I feel like I'm suffocating all the time . I've been to ent and they keep saying that everything is normal . They actually suggested turbinate reduction but I just think that will make even worse my condition . I've had 2 times sinus surgery and it's just made it worse . I feel total discomfort in my nose constantly 😪 can't sleeep or concentrate on anything . I'm doing evey single day sinus rinse but it doesn't help at all . Don't know what else to try . Anyone who has this please reply on this comment 🙏

ENS/turbinate injury is very real and far from psychological. Well respected Dr.s within the field of Ent have already blown the whistle on the true dangers of turbinate surgery procedures. It is a common fallacy spread by those in the field who continue to fool the public that altering an essential organ can diminish chronic stuffiness or inflammation. One of the biggest contradictions is that patients are screened thoroughly before a surgery (Both for physical and mental aptitude). What occurs is when a patient has a bad outcome and mislead about the safety and efficiency, these very "Dr.s" who patients put their trust in have no back up plan to reverse the damages. They do not want to be held liable for any wrong doing. This is not the first or last time medical professionals who perform and market overly routine procedures have caused harm, then use the "psychological disorder" card.

This is truly tragic and I weep and pray for your Mom. What the ENT's don't realize is the important physiologic function the nose has in processing every molecule of air we breathe in with every breath we take throughout our life. "Fixing" nasal airflow is an oxymoron when you ignore physiology. Part of every comprehensive evaluation should be an analysis of cellular level physiology to see if the nasal cells are normal and have not atrophied to the point of non-functional. This condition can happen for a variety of reasons. Highly recommend the book....BREATH by James Nestor.

Anyway, I had the operation in 2019,the doctor said that the operation was successful However, in the first days of the operation, I couldn't sleep because my throat was drooping, no examination was made for 7 days even though I called the doctor's assistant, 7. When I went the next day, the plaster was removed and a spray was given for the sagging in my throat. Even though I only informed that the hole in the septum would be closed, the doctor had already filed my already small nasal bone, lifted the tip of the nose and expanded my nose to the sides, making it almost like a black nose. The main problems appeared on the 14th day when the tampons in my nose were removed, my breathing changed strangely, I was constantly short of breath because I could not feel my breathing, I was trying to breathe deeply, this caused me to be busy with my breathing and not be able to focus on anything else during the day, My sleep at night was also often interrupted, when I told the doctor about this situation, I opened your nose like a cave and he said you need to be able to breathe very well. I came back from Istanbul and started to continue my work, but there was still abnormality in my breathing, my nose hurt while breathing, I started to breathe through my mouth constantly during the day, I had no solution for the night, I would fall asleep at night, I would wake up with panic and heart palpitations, this situation always happened. It was repeated at least 10 times a night, my under-eyes collapsed, my body began to weaken, I was sluggish and tired every day, I couldn't focus on my work, my social life was over, I was forced to come and go between work and home, I spent the rest of my time trying to sleep, I didn't even have to clean my house. Moreover, because I was constantly sleepless, I started to lose my health day by day, my heart could not stand the sleep apnea I experienced at night, it became tired, now I had constant heart palpitations and I was on my way to heart failure. 3 years after the last surgery, in 2022, when I was examined by an ENT professor and told my complaints, he looked inside my nose with an endoscopic camera and your 2 lower turbinates were completely removed, the hole in the septum was reopened over time, you can't feel your breathing because the turbinates have been removed, and there is also a feeling of pressure because the inside of your nose is very wide. It does not form, so when you fall asleep, you wake up in panic because the brain cannot feel that you are breathing. Moreover, there is no cure for it, just as a severed finger cannot regenerate, so do the turbinates. He said to use a nasal humidifier, but the room did not work. And when I was a person who loves life and tries to stand up in all circumstances, I even thought of committing suicide, I don't know how many times I will end up, think about it, you can't feel that you are breathing and this is a situation that repeats every second. I am only 30 years old, but I collapsed for 10 years. I have a heart disease. When I searched foreign sites for empty nose syndrome, I saw cases of suicide and even cases of heart attack. All I can say now is this: How is medical education given in Turkey, how can the doctor who operated on me, knowing that I will have empty nose syndrome, can take all my nasal passages completely, we entrust our lives to these doctors! I wish I had never had that pituitary surgery and hadn't fallen into this situation. I have no right to such doctors, they ruined my life. Of course, there are good doctors, but I have always had bad ones. No matter how much I rebel, this life will pass like this, this is my test in life, I have no choice but to be patient. I hope that a cure will be found as soon as possible for those who have ENS syndrome like me and myself.

I have obstructive sleep apnea & have never kept my cpap mask on due to mouth breathing because of enlarged turbinates. Any suggestions on alternatives to turbinate reductions? Having untreated sleep apnea creates that lack of energy and exhaustion that happens for ENS sufferers. So I fully empathize that part. I never feel rested, but I can breathe & don’t have all the other things to deal with that those with ENS have. I’m working on losing weight, do avoid things like gluten & dairy most of the time, & am now on an allergy routine of Claritin in morning, Singulair before dinner, & 1 Benadryl right around or right after dinner. Benadryl makes me groggy next day, so even if it’s helping me breathe at night to help the OSA that I have, I am not rested or aware enough to know if I have any improvement from that routine.

Today I read an article in Huffington post by a guest writer regarding ENT syndrome. I now know what has been plaguing me for the last ten years since I stupidly had the surgery. This is me. everything described is happening to me. An unending nightmare. A surgery that made me a slave to it. The dryness, the eye irritation, the dehydration, the gasping for air, the sinus full feeling, the forever nose infection, the dizziness, the lack of sleep, the constant feeling of fight or flee, the high stress and anxiety. Been to other ENT and told its all me, go see a psychiatrist there's nothing wrong here. Considered suing the surgeon but all ENT band together to deny they did anything wrong. I now sleep with my head elevated. having known I would've left it alone content to use nasal spray once in a while.

Is this the Twilight Zone? This story sounds just like what happened to me. I almost took my own life 5-6 months after surgery. I went out and cut grass with a push lawnmower to exhaust myself. I spent many weeks in mental hospitals, taking antidepressants and antianxiety meds. I went from doctor to doctor trying to find a resolution to the empty nose symptoms. It's so demeaning to be labeled a 'head case when the ENT has ruined your life. I had the surgery in 1994 at the age of 38. It ruined me. I went on disability for depression and couldn't work or concentrate. I will be 65 in January. I can't believe I'm still alive. It's a terrible condition to live with. probably shouldn’t say this here but my turbinates absolutely hate me at night. i looked into why i was stuffy and found the turbinates. i was curious to see how the body reacts without them, and i came across ENS, so i think i’ll just leave them alone. edit: i just have messed up blood vessels in my nose

Same . I have this nasty gunk that keeps coming out of my right now every day and can't breathe. Could be allergies and/or an infection and polyps though. Either way it's annoying

So tragic. I can relate to every word. Every day is so hard. Depression is a secondary effect. The only people who know about ENS are the sufferers. We need the world to know. Media needs to let the world know instead of making "mountains out of molehills" in other issues.

Hello guys, I hope you pay attention to my comment and manage to share it or make it viral if possible, if it works for you as it was in my case, it completely changed my life in a positive way, forgive my English I am using a translator, to summarize I am a boy of 25 years of Venezuela, at 10 years of age I fractured the septum of my nose and it remained that way until approximately at age 18 I had surgery only on the septum, (I remember that before the operation my nose was dry, I did not have the tip of the greasy nose) = with this I want to tell you that the fat and oils of most things make your nose clog and not only the nose but also most of the mucous membranes of the human body with this I mean yes For example, you make yourself a moisturizing lotion on your skin, you are more prone to things sticking to you or, as in my case, you get more easily, at that time when I had a fractured nose, I breathed well even though I breathed more through a hole io than the other but due to the deviation of the septum but as I told you I had no fat in my nose and therefore the nostrils were moist (hydrated) and that helped me breathe well despite my fracture. Well, after I had surgery on the septum, when I was 18 years old, about 15 days later I had a dermatitis on the tip of my nose and I noticed how it turned red but I did not go to a dermatologist but instead I consulted the pharmacy for a medicine that I I would recommend for dermatitis because at that time and now in my country it was very expensive to consult a doctor with a dematologist in general apart from the medicines and I just what I had was not enough good in general I bought the medicine called betamethasone that I applied it to my nose and it removed the itching and the reddish color of the dermatitis but it was only for a certain time, well guys, as time went by I stopped using it and tiny scabs began to appear on the tip of my nose and spots black like excessive fat that was when my whole nightmare started from this point my nose and not only my nose but my hair my eyes my ears I could not see or hear well and they were extremely fatty, well and as time went by the lower turbinates of my nose swelled to the point of completely obstructing both nostrils and at 24 years old I had a diode laser operation that reduced my ears more on one side than the other and after the operation I had an immediate improvement but after a month they grew back and lasted until I reached a point that I breathed every day through my mouth and not because of my nose and I had serious problems memorizing resting affected my quality of life so much that it distanced me from everyone, my family and my friends, I had a completely miserable life, my brain was not oxygenated and I began to have blurred vision I did not listen well I forgot everything in short a total nightmare until one day I provided an ene pill that contains sodium bicarbonate and acetaminophen because I had stomach acid and had that good in what After I took one of those pills, I felt an immediate relief in my breathing and then I began to investigate why this happened and basically I found that bicarbonate is used for scabies or scabies, (it should be noted that he said that he treated it more it eliminated it ) then I found out that because of the dermatitis that I had on the tip of my nose it was not dermatitis itself but it was scabies or scabies and at that moment I bought a medicine that is the one that completely changed my life and I think that My opinion is the definitive cure for both covid 19 and the empty nose syndrome that is ivermectin since in what I took the first dose that were two pills of 6 mg = 12 mg every 5 or 8 days, I immediately felt that my nostrils were moistened at first as my nose was super stuffy I felt pain in the part where my lateral turbinate was reduced but then as the days passed I felt an incredible relief and by that I mean everything is say that my ears were uncovered, my vision improved, my memory improved, my breathing improved enormously and with respect to covid, the people who have more fat either because of scabies because it not only cures that disease there are others like it the posh and other parasites that are normally easily contagious and invisible, that is to say that if you do not do a thorough examination on your body you cannot know if you have it that means that anyone can have that and perhaps not in the nose but in the body or in the throat and it makes it difficult to breathe because of the fat, by this I mean that ivermectin as it eliminates the parasites and bacteria that produce that fat that makes your respiratory tract They cover or do not work correctly, in conclusion my life changed, gentlemen, today I take my 3rd dose of ivermectin and the improvement intensifies I hope everyone tries this medicine and any questions or clarifications I await your comments and doubts I will also indicate if they do not have the possibility of consulting a doctor as in my case how they can take it correctly I hope they try this medication and it changes their lives completely as my regards.

What's the other option? My ENT Doctor was talking to me about turbinate reduction surgery because I can't really breathe with my nose properly. I asked him about ENS and he said oh well it's related to psychiatric patients and is controversial. He also said that doesn't happen when you don't take the whole turbinate out. What should I do instead of surgery? I've tried almost everything

@@davidn.2555 Your doctor is IGNORANT as are about half of these clowns. As for you...try a food elimination diet. Your tissue swells for a reason. Common allergies are wheat or dairy foods. Eliminate one for 3 to 4 weeks and do a GOOD job of it. If that wasn't it try the other one. If not that environmental allergies like mold or other thing could be it. Doctors who try to pin this on physiological issues are ignorant assholes and should not be doctors. If they can't understand nerve pain...dryness...headachend suffocation etc can come from damaging the nose then they are either REALLY DUMB OR REALLY CORRUPT AND CONFLICTED.
