Burning Ryes is Ensiferum's own Finnish and old-time beer, which is selected as raw materials for rye malt and smoke aroma. What could hit this band's story better!
This beer was sent to me by one of the long time crew members of Ensiferum and Ensiferum themselves. Thank you D.O.G. and Ensiferum!! This beer traveled all the way from Finland! It took 13 days to arrive at my house, but at least it arrived safely. Unfortunately, do to the long travel I have no idea how it was handled. This is a Smoked Rye New England IPA that comes in at 6% and 24 IBUs. The brewers used Pale, wheat, rye and smoked malts; Citra, Loral, Mosaic and Columbus hops; Lalbrew Verdant IPA yeast; and oats. The beer poured out a light opaque yellow with a thin white head. I expected it to smell smoky, but it doesn't. However, it had a nice fruity smell. The beer had a creamy medium body with a nice fruity flavor and some rye bitterness on the backend. Unfortunately, I did not pick up any smokiness in the beer, but those flavors might have been lost due to the length of time in spent in transit in less than ideal conditions. With low carbonation and no indication of alcohol this is a very crushable beer. This is a beer I could drink regularly! Thank you Ensiferum and The D.O.G. for sending this to me.
