I was kinda bored through most of it, but loved how grandiose it sounded after the clean vocals came in. I guess they were trying to build up for that. Definitely gonna listen some more to let it sink in. Super atmospheric

I love the song. Enslaved has never been the kind of band you like on first listen. I really don't agree with you guys on this one. On the other hand, it's not at all pleasant to be looking at maggots throughout the entire song.

Your opinion may sound pretentious BUT you're absolutely right. I love these two guys but Enslaved's music is deep and spiritual and it requires time and focus. It's not "youtube reaction" material, this is not Arch Enemy or In Flames or some other stuff that you can easily digest, this is art and you need a certain level of life experience and understanding to fully appreciate it. We all enjoy a good catchy riff, a la Amon Amarth, it's really easy and fun to bang your head to stuff like that, but this is different. I mean the show Vikings is fun and all but then you have films like Robert Eggers "Northman". It's deeper. You need to understand cinema to appreciate stuff like that. It happens the same with Enslaved. It's a different level.

having been a fan of this band since their early viking roots (Frost to Eld) and even more when they turned to a more progressive experimental style starting with the Monumension album.... the three to follow that album Below the Lights, Isa and Ruun are my favorites from them. so being a long time fan i can say, going by the 2 singles i have heard, this is definitely not their best work. it's boring and meandering and lacks the cohesive intention they had with earlier abums. subtly were always their strong suit but this never reaches pockets of genius subtle guitar harmonies that they are known for... prime exampe of this is their song "Bounded by Allegiance" if you guys want to actually hear decent song from this band check out that songs "Bounded by Allegiance" "Isa" or "Fusion of Sense and Earth"

Unfortunally, they lost the black/death metal riffs and drums, the album E is a masterpiece but after that ..... only 1 song in the last album is good and in this albun gonna be the same, and we haved listened to this good song called "caravans to the outer worlds".

Enslaved hasn't really been good since their "E" album. Their best two albums are "Axioma Ethica Odini" and "Riitiir".

They’re stuck in this weird rut where they beat an idea to death and they’re so sure that the idea they’re fixated on is a good one, but the reality is they’re becoming a black metal version of a jam band that lost the wild-eyed creativity they had in the 2000s and forgot that repetition and hooks aren’t the same thing. “E” showed the first signs of this issue and every album since has gone deeper down that rabbit hole. I say this as someone who’s listened since ‘97 and loved everything (aside from RIITIIR) until “E”. I hope they remember where their sweet spot is again someday.

Man, RIITIIR was brilliant. Especially Roots of the Mountain, and Death in the Eyes of Dawn.

@@jthomashair Sorry, I guess my YT isn’t showing me notifications so I didn’t see this until just now. For my own personal experience, RIITIIR was kinda lethargic in the first half. It gets better starting with Roots or the Mountain, but even then I think some of the vocal choices pulled me out of it in spots. I’ve gone back to it while I’ve been writing this, probably for the first time since the first week or so since it was released, and I’d say once “Roots of the Mountain” kicks in it gets good, but I can’t say I love it like I do In Times and all of the albums before it. I guess another way to put is that the way a lot of folks feel about RIITIIR is how I feel about Mardraum. Mardraum is Enslaved’s peak for what I like most about the band.

Personally this is the most excited I've been for an Enslaved record in a while. Both Utgard and E were kinda boring and predictable. This is much more engaging and interesting.

@@APREACTS You may not believe me, but no, I didn't. I thought the first single from that album was very weak. And later songs didn't change my opinion. Edit: I'm a big black metal guy though, and this song has more black metal influences especially in the first half. I'm glad they're switching it up because they've been doing the same extreme prog sound for years now. Most of it is good, don't get me wrong, but it was getting very samey for me.

it was boring.. I like their last record and I'm not a big fan of their style, but this... dude... no.. And the video doesn't contribute to make it -more- enjoyable.
