Compatible with Ensoniq ESQ-1 / ESQ-M /SQ-80, the free SQ8L plugin as well as Arturias SQ80 V*. This pack has 40 brand new patches.

Brass, strings, pads, keys, synths, bass and bells. All ready to go into your own music. These are sounds tailored for pop, synthwave, Italo Disco and Soundtracks. These are not particularly tailored for industrial- or darker experimental electronic music.
*There are 2 different files in the download. One is for the sysex transfer to hardware as well as the free SQ8L emulator, while the other is for the Arturia SQ80 V plugin.
These patches uses the factory waveforms. Not any hidden or custom waveforms.
In the demo I use a lot of external reverb and delay. Some chorus as well. Necessary on these old synths. I've never been fan of showing off neither patches, nor waveforms dry. Except for maybe bass sounds.
The Ensoniq ESQ-1 from 1986 is on of those classic hybrid synths from the 80s. It has digitally stored waveforms and analog filters.
The ESQ-1 was the first synth of many aspiring synth people and it still holds a strong nostalgic grip on most of us. And it's still very much alive. It has a certain sound that many likes.
The patches are the copyright of Espen Kraft and can be used in any commercial production without limitations. The patches cannot be resold or assembled into any other collection- or distribution online, or otherwise.

I had and sold 2 of them.😢They were so cheap in the late 90s and early 2Ks I figured I could always pick up another, then the decades flew by and I never did. I really miss them now.

4:47 love this bit! Sounds like this is why I bought an ESQ-1, yet havnt been able to get it sound like this yet. It’s sounds beautiful it has such rich harmonics…being able to play so well helps too.

Thanks! I don't think I'll do many more synth reviews at all actually- I'm sick of making those. I'd much rather make videos on the creative process of making music, which is really why I started the channel. It just turned into a gear worship channel which I've come to detest. The JP-8080 is a fun synth though.

Instead of a formulaic review of a synthesizer, perhaps you could feature one or more synths in your creative process to showcase their significance of that particular track, maybe describing some of the features that you utilize to get the sound you needed/wanted. Just a thought. Either way, keep up the good work man! God bless!

Thank Espen I look forward to getting these patches for my Esq-1 I have also the younger cousin the Ensoniq SD-1! Sadly, Ensoniq was acquired by Emu systems and that was the beginning of the end of Ensoniq and fall of the Pennsylvania based company.

Thanks! Experimental sounds aren't my thing. I'm a "pop" guy and as such I have no great use for them, nor do I use fancy such sounds myself. Only once in a blue moon. ;-)

@@EspenKraft Some of the greatest experimental sounds come from the greatest 80s pop composers (i.e. Japan, Tears for Fears, etc.). But, in any case, it would be cool to see more ESQ-1 content from you someday. Maybe even just a stream with you discussion your thoughts on it.

I understand what you say and "experimental" sounds can be a little of both worlds I guess, depending on who you ask. ;-) My ESQ-1 is sort of out for sale, but I might keep it. I don't know. I'm trying to sell off everything I don't use on a vert regular basis and the ESQ doesn't get much use as I much prefer the Kawai K3 for sounds in this ballpark. Even the DW-8000 gets more use, but that too is going out this summer I think. In any case, I'm having a live stream soon again and the usual Q and A. ;-)

I have two. I bought a broken second one for the transformer and other spares thinking it was 230v but it wasn't (I wanted to convert my SQ80 to 230v) so I fixed it up.

@@mr.zeitmaschine6878 I have a metal case version and a plastic case version. People say the metal ones are more reliable, probably due to heat dissipation and lack of flexing. I got a SQ80 for £300 in around 2014/2015, it shipped from the US and I converted it to UK mains voltage by getting a KS32 transformer listed on ebay and swapping it over.

The ESQ came out in the wrong time. In its time you would expect a Roland D-50, but the ESQ was from a previous period. Nowadays having a synth with analog filters and primitive samples is not a problem anymore. The effects can be added and multitimbrality isn't a issue anymore.

The VFX is together with the Yamaha tx 16w, the tx816, Emu Emax 2 the most disappointing and annoying synth that I have ever owned.

@@arakaneuman I'm wondering if that criticism might have a little something to do with their user interfaces (VFX known as being buggy, TX16W only becoming better with the "Typhoon" OS upgrade, longer loading times for samples in case of TX16W and Emax 2, TX816 requiring an external DX7 or a computer editor to make use of its full potential etc.) 🤔 If you came from a great sounding and intuitive machine like a Jupiter-8, an Oberheim, a Prophet or a Moog...then ok. 😉 With that being said...what are your favourite hardware keyboards/samplers/synths (and why)?

@@sauermusicDE you can be the judge of that, the most upliofting and easy to use machines I have ever owned is oberheim xpander, oberheim ob8, sequential prophet vs, sequential sixtrack,, ppg wave 2,2, waldorf microwave, akai s1000, osc oscar, moog memorymoog, moog minimoog, arp odyssey, roland tr808, roland mc202, Roland D550 and (drumroll) yamaha tx81z.

I use the old, but insanely good "Arpache" in Cubase. A MIDI device plugin that comes standard with Cubase for at least 20 years. ;-)

I bought one of these in the 00s. It blew up after a month. Turned out the shop had bypassed all the internal fuses with wire! Sadly irreparable so I had to dump it.😢

I might be mistaken but I remember only being able to backup and load programs to the ESQ1 via sysex THROUGH a Mirage?

Not the only way. Standard sysex transfer both ways is not a problem.

Nice bank for sure. Cannot get this to work with Arturia SQ80V though. Not sure if its meant to be maybe. It does import OK but only one bank title present and its silent.

Thanks. It would seem that Arturia can't read the original sysex then even if they say it can. I tried it on the freeware SQ8L and it worked fine on that. Strange.

@@EspenKraft I have contacted Arturia about it and see what happens from their end. The file is 2.4K for the download and expands out to 8K. Maybe upload the file uncompressed perhaps and do not use any compression. It does import into SQ80V OK but it shows up as just a bank title and its silent. No presets show up either.
