Today, we are in for a treat as we tour around a 5-room, 1259 sqft resale HDB flat. This modern Japanese interior design home is inspired by the highly sought after Japanese Muji interior design x Japanese Onsen Spa.
Stepping into this home, you will instantly find yourself surrounded by the neutral color of a natural woody brown, placing the home in a more tranquil and relaxed setting.
The owner has also come up with ingenious ways to enliven the home with materials that gel beautifully with wood in order to create textures around their home.
Since wood is the constant element found throughout this home, it brings out the more cosy and warm sentiments that ultimately makes this house a home.

The wood chosen is too orangey for a muji theme. Too many built-in carpentry doesnt do justice for a 5-rm. It makes the house so “busy” and cramped. The water dispenser doesnt make sense? It’s just another 5-10 steps to the kitchen. If you really need to make milk in the middle of the night, it’s much easier to just store warm water in a thermal.
@sophiakrishnan2053

Yeah it made a big home look so cramped. And I did this this particular compact looked so cheap and plasticky and orange.

I think a second sink is essential, be it in the yard or in the pantry. Since the home doesn’t have a dishwasher, the additional sink provides more convenience to the home owners for washing or making coffee.

There are a lot of great ideas in this home, but it's weird that they went to all the trouble to 'hide' various things - the storage units and the fan in the bathroom cabinet for example - but didn't hide the plastic plumbing pipes (around 7:35 ) ??

Personally I don't find this design appealing at all. It's the same monotonous orangey wood everywhere (less the ceiling and half the toilet). Midway watching the video I felt claustrophobic. I cant imagine myself living in this apartment for more than a day without feeling dizzy. I feel like the air tunnel is blocked at the dining area (the part where they built the flushed door-wall to the bedroom and toilet). Theres no plants, no vibrance and lack of contrasting colors. Even their sofa is orange my goodness.
@777Id7m

Perhaps I am very wrong. But I won’t spend that kind of money in renovation unless I am sure I am there to stay. Why don’t we use that for condo down payment? And with all the nice furnish up in new condo as a basis (eg marble flooring), you may spend much less to achieve a crazy nice home. Not to mention a lot of home seller can’t even recover their reno cost when the deal is sealed, unless you bought the place like 15-20 yrs ago.
