Lyrics:
Like Socrates I only graze on the slopes
Of the summit of my own ignorance
Like Hippocrates I can affirm that the method of science
Is an appliance that emancipates us from dogma
and slant
and bias
Ah the seasons are changing
The velocities at which we now evolve
Mean we got to dissolve unchecked tradition
But atrocities go untouched under the guise of culture
Committed on another mind another heartbeat
heartbeat
heartbeat
I've got a sinking feeling
Like Sophocles we now wield the paintbrush
So keep a tight grip on a magnifying glass
Our priorities now that we hold the torch
Mean we got to hold it high to illuminate the dark
and archaic
and vile
We swear allegiance to no one
We’ll never let go of the microscope
No matter how callous the shells
We’ll harness the heat of the sun
And we’ll burn you out of fucking existence

Shikari have been killing it from the start. Easily one of the most dynamic bands of today.

Too many people seem to be moaning about this. I mean it has so much packed into it, it's great. The rap, the electronics, the ambience compliments the heavy sections, melodys and harmonies just weaving in between each other, the calm and the chaos. I haven't been a fan of theirs for a while but this is pretty amazing. It's beautiful and brutal at the same time, something that can either be executed perfectly or awfully, there is no middle ground and this hits the nail on the head in my opinion.

For me, this great song is all about Chris musically. That deep, smooth bass just brightens up the low end so much and really drives the verses. Then on top of that, his vocals are so chill and atmospheric.
@shikarifox4337

Chris always nails it, his verse in Rat Race was perfect, but I think Rob should have more vocal parts, like in Slipshod (the best part is Rob's "whoopsie")

You know what? Hats off to Enter Shikari for an extremely well made song. Ok, maybe its not as heavy as the likes of Sorry Your Not or The Last Garrison or Meltdown etc but it's still a very well made album. Them four boys have really grown musically in my eyes, they are always looking to do the different, go that extra mile, not stay the same sort of thing. But people always expect the same. "Oh this song isn't heavy", "I preferred the old albums" la la la la la. Ok, its opinion i get it but i would like to counter than opinion and say hold on a minute, actually listen to the music and see how they have gotten better! This song is not heavy at all, but neither was Pack Of Thieves of the last album was it? This is the Pack Of Thieves of the album, and I know this album is going to blow the last one out of the water. I cannot wait for it and i cannot wait to see them in February. Keep doing what you do Shikari!!!

Ted Claxton You say it's boring and that in their first album they would surprise you... are you honestly trying to say this is exactly what you expected from Shikari?
@BeatFREAK13
@BeatFREAK13 9 лет назад
Ted Claxton Personally, while I do love TTTS, I think it sounds the most samey and predictable save for a few songs. It all had a VERY specific sound. Since then, their albums have had far more variety which I think is better. I like that they're experimenting, even if it's not exactly what I like hearing most from them. Though I gotta say, they could've done a lot more to liven up the outro for this.

I thought that PoT was one of the heaviest songs from AFFoC.. not agressive, just heavy because chorus is mostly about the guitar, as opposite to other songs where electronics have the main role.. this song is more akin to Search Party (mostly slowly building song, then some short heavy part throw close to the end)

And it's funny how they aren't one of my most favorite bands, but yet I'm more excited for new music from them than I am my favorite bands. You never know what to expect with ES. Man, I absolutely love the atmospheres in this track! Lyrics are on-point, impactful, and never feel overly forced or bombastic. This album seems like it promises a lot of dimensions. I say good for them. They're not stagnating in the same sound, and clearly aren't afraid to try a variety of styles. On another note, to the people calling this track "boring"...there's a lot to appreciate here - spare your instant criticism until the album is released so that you can hear it in context to the surrounding songs.

Why do people always say that they should go back to TTTS sound? That album pales in comparison to the rest of their work. My fave shikari era was around post Common Dreads when they released destabilise and quelle surprise. Flash flood was great. Pretty much better as a whole album than the previous two, but common dreads had better stand alone songs. Their new stuff is definitely top quality though. Been listening to it nonstop.

Enter Shikari never fail to impress me, from ttts to singles like thumper and Rat Race to the new songs we've heard. Putting irrelevant "heaviness" aside this is the most atmospheric song they've done and as 'Beez' said in his album review you never know what is coming next, Enter Shikari aren't afraid to try something different. I'm sure there will be enough moments in the upcoming album that will melt our fucking faces off, I for one can't wait.

Look at the big picture here. If you were EXPECTING heavy-rock-tunes you should already know that you cannot EXPECT from ES. This song is no doubt going to make the album sound smooth. It is a great song, full of top quality music. Love the build up and how experimental it is. (Not a mind-blower, yes). The beggining rap is very catchy so it's not awful to the ears and the mash-up of melodic leads is beautiful... very relaxing. Lyrics are just good, I'd say it is still in progress for Rou to compose rapping lyrics, but hey, so far so good. This album is going to be bloody 'groit'.

The introspective thoughts that come out this band have always been intriguing... Rou has a significant knack at that. I hope you younger kids understand the social awareness issues he's singing about. That you do the right thing for your generation to progress which he has been trying to get across to all the listeners. The recording production is better. The songwriting is better. The ideas are there. The vision is there. The message is there. This album is going to be fantastic and ground breaking I feel.

This is a good song. Stop comparing it to the older stuff, because it has to be different. The band chose it, so they must be proud of it. And with good reason. It gets the message out there, in a way that will stick in the minds of those radio one listeners who will subconsciously learn the lyrics. This does what it needs to do, in some style.
