This is really a great video, very detailed and tutorial. I have to say, I commend you on not addressing all of the live comments on the sidebar. I have taken countless live courses online and 50% of the comments, as you can see, are nonsense and time wasters. It would be great if students would treat the course professionally and only address serious questions during class... Other than that, a really great class. i would like to see a full 12 week course on Dorico from this instructor. i have encouraged Berklee School of Music to add a Dorico class to their schedule, especially since Finale is now obsolete. thanks again, love your videos!
These live streams are so insanely helpful and fun to watch. Thank you. Hope you know how much we appreciate all this hard work! I like having your floating head on screen btw lol.
50:40 it would be helpful if the galley view showed the ongoing technique names like 'pizz' on the left side of the screen in light gray text just like it shows the clef in light gray text, when those indications like 'pizz' are prior in the score (off-screen ) 1:18:00 Presumably in the future, Dorico will do an automatic smart score reduction into a 'Sketch-Reduction' instrument in real-time as notes are added in other staves. . . that woud make 'Sketch' very useful when writing
50:40 the technique shows in the key editor if you have that open (at the bottom of the screen) and if playback is enabled you'll hear e.g. pizz when you select or enter notes. 1:18:00 we aren't planning that as there are generally other human decisions that need to happen. Try running the Paste Special > Reduction option to see what I mean - you'll get too many notes.
At minute 15:50, if the midi input doesn't work, it's because when the audio engine is disabled, the midi input doesn't work either. This happens to me all the time and that's why I became aware of it in the video ;-)
Hi! I’m new to Dorico - this stream is a revelation. Am I watching in real time, or is this a recording? I’m a SIbelius refugee (ruined by Avid) with an over-controlling subscrition. Opus is a nightmare, no one seems capable of connecting the EastWest sound libraries without ridiculously onerous processes! I’m 68, have had Parkinson’s for 25 years which is beginning to inhibit and certainly slow down working on my computer. I compose symphonic music and wonder how long it took you to become fluent using Dorico? Would I be able to transfer all my SIbelius scores easily into Dorico? [Dr.Rick from Dorset]😊
Hi. It's always been very helpful, thank you. I have a question. Is it possible to hide only specific notes? Then is it possible to hide only certain measures? Please tell me. Thank you.
It probably depends on the case and why you are hiding them e.g. do you still want them to playback? Do you just want to hide the notehead but keep the stem etc. Try posting some examples on the Facebook community group (facebook.com/groups/dorico) or forum (www.Dorico.com/forum).
I just bought Dorico Pro4 two days ago, and trying to write a score by follow your instruction carefully, however, I cannot change Percussion into 5-line as the function in Layout options doesn't have 'Percussion' like yours. How can I change it, please?
Hey, thank you very much for the video. I am looking for a sample library to get a professional sounding playback / mockup with dorico. Thanks for mentioning berlin orchestral berklee, I will check that out! Can you estimate how long it will be untill the dorico playback template for this library will be avaiable? Thank you again so much.
@@ModernMozartMC Yes I already own Noteperformer and I love it. But the sounds are not enough for a professional production so I am looking forward to the playback templates for Dorico. I don't like writing in a daw so much.
I'm not sure on the timescale. It basically works for loading all the instruments and there are now people looking at tweaking the expression maps e.g. note length conditions etc. Maybe in the next month or two.
Might it be useful to state prominently, for future readers/viewers, WHICH Mahler symphony is being entered? It's mentioned within the video, but (as far as I can see) nowhere in text.
@@michaeldemarco119 Right, I know the symphony, in fact. It seemed odd to have that fact omitted from the headnote, which goes into detail about so much.
Hello, I have a question, How can I condense solo violin with first violins section in an orchestral piece? I wasn't able to make the first violins to solo player for some bars☹️☹️
Normally you would use the divisi function to only add the soloist where they are playing a separate line and then the rest will condense as you need. I suggest either contacting support, our forum (Dorico.com/forum) or the Facebook group (facebook.com/groups/Dorico) if you need more help.
@@doricoyes thank you.but there is an issue, when i add solo , it's still the section playing the notes. I am using Note Performer for my playback. And i have no choice but add an extra solo player to whole score.😕
