Mar 13, 1993: A soon-to-be Canadian sensation Shania Twain appears live on Entertainment Desk to talk with Bob McAdorey about her debut self-titled album and to perform a love acoustic version of "Still Under the Weather".
You can see the greatness in her even back then!Such a steady, powerful voice! You can tell the winners like her from the very beginning...There is something really captivating in the future superstars-something special you can always tell!
I prefer her voice here. She had more inflections coming through...showed more range...but she went commercial or should I say was forced to go commercial...from simple country girl to sex symbol. I wonder if that was Mutts doing? He seems to be somewhat of a Dr. Frankenstein...couldn't deal with his creation so he dumped her for an ugly woman
Brasstacks The important thing is she's a survivor, someone who's taken all that life could throw at her and she caught it and threw it back! She did not have an easy, early life; in fact, she's been through the ringer, but come out cleaned and pressed. She became a parent to her siblings when her folks were killed in a crash, and because of her musical talent, she's written and performed her own. She's a gutsy lady who's seen bad times and good, but she's worked hard and long and has many whose lives are owed her. Although her real name's Eileen, Shania is native American for, "I'm on my way." How fitting she told her own fortune!
Great comment, I've always noticed that when she doesn't try to sing in the higher end of her range too much, her voice has great versatility and inflection. Her 1993 album was honestly a great country album and I don't really understand why it didn't perform well on its first run. This is one of my favorite live performances of her career, this and a performance of "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is Anymore" in 1996 on Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee.
Lol. That really made me laugh!! I actually prefer her earlier singing. Not only did her range change but doesn’t she seem to speak with an accent now?
Toto, yes. I think the stress of the things she's gone through caused a tightness in her voice. You hear it in the way she sings later compared to these early years. You hear it even more in her speaking voice.
Fiendish Thingy you can get rid of it when mixing. Can make someone physically get rid of it lol but a lot of times in pop music today they get rid of your vibrato with plug ins like Auto Tune.
im currently reading her official autobiography. its amazing to see this as ive been reading about this part of her life in great detail! interesting how this is her favourite song even though she didnt write this one. but i can see why she it was her favourite. it definitely relates to her parents deaths not long before.
