First time I shed tears over Bob since his passing. I wondered if it would happen - tears - it did! Voice of my youth, I wanted to be a host like him on a game show. Hearing Rod Roddy and Bob. Two greats reunited imho in afterlife. R.I.P. Bob, we will continue your SPCA legacy. My recent dog is my 4th rescue, 2nd from SPCA since 2004.
The Million Dollar Spectacular Entries through the Audience are because Golden ROAD, featuring The Most Expensive single Automotive Prize in the history of the show would be the opening game out if the gate.
Who doesn't? He was a great host. A lot of times when I watch the price is right, I wish he never had to retire. He brought so much enthusiasm and fun to the show. Drew Carey doesn't really have a lot of that. It's also a shame they got rid of Rich Fields. He was a phenomenal announcer.
I had forgotten how many Million Dollar Spectaculars there were during Bob's era. There were quite a lot. Of course during his era, the reason there was never a Million Dollar winner was because the Million Dollar part was only during the Showcase Showdown, which of course was never won (Although it came extremely close quite a few times from what I remember). It was during the Drew Carey era this was expanded to a random pricing game & the showcase finale itself.
That was why Drew ended up giving away $1,000,000 three times on separate shows. The Showcase Showdown part is understandable enough, but I'd personally combine that with the whole showcase bit; basically, the winner of their showcase gets a free spin for $1,000,000, BUT if they bid close enough to the ARP of their showcase to win both showcases, that spin requirement is removed and they automatically win the $1,000,000 in addition to both showcases. The pricing games would function as normal, with no extra challenges on the side but with an increase in prize value across the board. I.E. you give it a fair degree of difficulty for the prize at stake.
Remember when 3 contestants won the million dollars during the Drew Carey's MDS specials? Well, because of that, CBS and the owners of the show could not find another insurance company that would underwrite the specials if another million dollars was won, so they did away with them altogether.
Now that rona lockdowns are over perfect time to redo a big party drew style with studio audience and the traditional contestants row calling them down and all the excitement that made tpir the best game show for over 50 years
The reason for no Price is Right Million Dollar Spataculars is cause no shows on CBS got cancelled of later. Only when a show gets cancelled & they need to fill slot they will do one.
How The Price Is Right used to be in the 50s-60', vs the revival that grew throughout the 70s, to now. Man what a gigantic difference! Bill Cullen may have been the original host, but Bob was the man. I give Drew credit even, taking over after the ledgen retired. He may not be as great as Bob, or had the kind of impact on this awesome show like Bob, but he is filling the largest pair of shoes, in game show history. And I think he's doing quite good, in his own way.
