Entry Closet Framing - Some needed wire management

Framing an entry closet was a small project this week, but made a big difference. We badly needed to have some sort of organization for our winter gear and cleaning up the mess of cables on the ground was a nicely added bonus.
The area is starting to take shape and we are excited to see the ideas in our heads placed out in the cabin. It is all just one small project at a time.

You need to put wire box clamps where your wire goes into the breaker box. The cut outs are sharp and can cut threw the loom on the wires making the box hot

Just because it's solar/battery power does not make it any less dangerous. Adherence to well-known principals of electric wiring have been omitted and thereby pose a serious danger to life and limb. No one wants to read about your obituary. Please take some advice and make the few corrections to ensure safety. You got a baby coming. Don't cut corners. I know the road has been long and living out of a camper shell has been rough. Please make the needed wiring corrections. There aren't that many. And please do not listen to those on here who are telling you, 'it's okay, do it your way'. They won't be hurt if you die.

Winter will be filled with little projectx. Each one might seem small, but improving your quality of life is the name of the game. One project to be marked off the list!

Barb and I have followed your channel since the day you moved onto your property. You're one of our favorites. We have been totally impressed by what you have accomplished in such a short time inspite of the set backs. ( truck vandalism, truck fire, tractor problems, flooding) And there have been others. But you weathered all the storms and you've built something great. So like others who have commented on the electrical work, I implore you to correct some of the dangerous conditions you have made.Maybe you have already corrected them. As was mentioned, get some self nailing stud guards to cover that notched stud. A nicked wire caused by nail or screw can cause a fire. It doesn't always trip a breaker. Use Romex connectors which firmly anchor the Romex to electrical boxes and panels. A electrical panel should not be used as a junction box. I believe you mentioned that you didn't want to run additional wiring to the panel. If you have an electrical problem after all the walls are finished ( dry wall, wood, etc) it might be difficult to trace it. Use wire staples to secure your wiring to the framing. We don't mean to criticize your work. We care for you and don't want you to loose what you have worked so hard for. We wish you all the best and pray that all goes well with the pregnancy. God bless!

That wiring is terrifying. At the very least, please get a junction box for those travelers and get some clamps for the breaker cutouts where the wires come in.

If you plan to acquire insurance on the house make sure everything is built to code. If not you may have to demolish and redo some of your hard work. Mostly having to do with life and safety.

The problem with using cute wiring, like what you did for your light switch, is that anyone (i.e, yourself) making modifications a year or more from now has to deal with that mess.

Keep it up!! Little things will make a big difference. I like the closet framing! Wouldn’t help with this project, cause you want factory doors ( I’d use a curtain) and a fuse box… but if it’s non insulated and non load bearing you can use 2x2 to save on lumber. Also using a rod and hangers is a waste of space in an a frame I think I’d go with big horse tack hooks! I know you are waiting on spray foam temperatures to be able to do the walls but I’m glad you are sorting out closets ! We support your projects! Thanks for all the work, editing and uploading too.

2 things. put a piece of metal over the "notch" you made to pass the wires by the framing. And #2 get some romex connectors where the wire leaves the box so it doesn't chaf and burn you TFO.

Clamps going into box.box on a peice of plywood then you can staple nice straight lines and label. The neater you do the box the better.

You know at the top i if you put more peices of timber across top you coul have made a ledge up there and the closet would be alot bigger inside ok just saying you have spare room there to make it wider

We had originally planned on lining the closet up with the loft stringer and tying it in there, but this would have made the closet too close to the door for trim and would have prevented the door from opening a full 90 degrees due to the door knob sticking out into the closet door.
