I have the Enve 3.4's and regarding heat and braking, I haven't had any problems. I rode up Figueroa Mountain here in southern California yesterday (Lance Armstrong used to train on it, as do many other pros) which has a 10 mile descent from the top that is very steep and twisty in many parts. The Enves performed great and had no overheating issues like I would on aluminum rims and very long and steep descents. I'll be putting up a ride video here shortly on my channel once it's done uploading, which has the descent in its entirety.
Great detailed review Ronald! Agree with all your points! I have the Corsa Speeds on my Enve 4.5s currently. The interface for the rear wheel is better than with 25s but I do get a small gap around the front tire as, like you said, the front wheel is wider.
It's difficult to tell. Think the ultimate fit would be a 25mm front and a 23mm rear. Aerodynamically I'd guess the gap when the 23mm is on the front tyre might be slightly better than having a bulging 25mm on the rear if you were looking to keep to one size. But I'd say the front tyre is most important to get right aerdynamically - so who knows! For a TT I'd go 23mm corsa speeds on both. Find it stange Enve have a wider fornt wheel for aerodynamics?? I'd have thought the front should be narrower?? The best width option if sticking to one size could be the S-works turbo cotton 24mm but they have slightly more rolling resistance.
Thanks for reply, Ya its a strange one from Enve alright. I currently use 24mm Sworks on 6.7. How do you find the brake rub with 4.5,theres a bit with my 6.7 im hoping the 4.5 is stiffer
No probs on the front wheel, but get occasional rub on the rear wheel. Partly due to my fiddly ee cycleworks brakes which I find really difficult to set up perfectly.
I own the Zipp 404 NSW's and the Bora Ultra 50 clinchers. The Boras roll better, are stiffer, and better in cross winds. The Zipps have better braking, though. Cant say if the Zipps are more aero since I've never done any technical testing. The hub on the Campy is amazing.
Hi Ronald, How did you like those Vittoria Corsa tires on the Enve 4.5's? I am looking for tires in 25mm that do not inflate as tall as my current Continental GP4000 in 25mm. The GP4000's inflate to roughly 25mm tall and around 27mm wide I am using the same wheels. Thanks and keep up the great videos
Great review Ronald. I have alwalys been wondering what are the watts savings @40kph for example between an aero wheel (4.5 or 404) compared to a box section alloy wheel?
What are the valve covers you are using to avoid rattling? Just got this wheelset myself and I was shocked as to how bad the valve rattles while riding. Something Enve should look at during quality control given the price, in my opinion.
Hi Ronald I have just received a set of 4.5's and want to ask you if you have experienced the same problems I am seeing. The rim bed on mine is very rough and not uniform a tube will not stay inflated. The rim bead is a different size at the bladder plug location and will not hold a tyre on safely. All round very poor manufacturing on an expensive set of wheels. Had you similar issues or mabe I just got a bad set. Thanks Sean
Hey Ronald great vid as usual, I have a set of these coming and want to get tyres to suit. Would the best option 25mm front and 23mm rear.Wicked looking bike btw 👍
I am getting mine with Chris king hubs so ill let you know on break rub, currently have 6.7 with King and theres quiet a bit of rub.I was hoping these would be much stiffer
