People’s Panellist Julie says Chris Bowen’s EV targets have been set “without considering the impact”.
She told Sky News Australia that it is “good to have targets” but it’s “how you get there”.
“And what impact it has on people.
“It’s going to affect investment.
“We’ve got the environment being destroyed to save the environment.”

As for EVs, it's not that people don't like change. It's that the technology is really not in place for many areas. The USA and Australia are huge countries. An EV might be fine as a second short-distance commuter car, but we just aren't there, yet. And some behave as if the EV 'process', from start to finish, is pure as the driven snow. Far from it. It's only "clean' in the middle part of the EV's birth to death. Even the middle part depends upon how that electricity is acquired.

A big problem with EVs is , they are all smoke and mirrors , as far as being a car they have one or two good points , but they come with a whole pile of bad points . And politicians are either too stupid to understand this or , they just find it as another bullshit cause they think they can easily pull the wool over the eyes of the general public with. EVs are inferior to a good internal combustion engine vehicle in the vast majority of ways, and this is absolute fact. I used to work in the automotive industry, and I can honestly say they are rubbish, throw away plastic fantastics. A family member has a Tesla, , and my honest opinion is I think they are rubbish. Think of the electric semi-trailer. When they stop for a "refuel", the trailers are disconnected and the prime mover is backed into a shed where a gantry crane lifts off the depleted batteries and replaces it with a charged battery pack. The prime mover is then reconnected to the trailers. All during a "rest stop", say the electric truck companies. The depleted batteries need to be recharged and that will be done by solar panels, the greens say. We are looking at 1000 solar panels to recharge one truck battery pack in one hour. There are 1000s of trucks on the Hume Highway every day. Summer and winter, sunshine and overcast. How much land has to be given over to solar farms just to keep these moving?

Innovation and engineering has improved the general cleanliness of internal combustion engines many times fold better over the last 25 odd years than what internal combustion engines did the previous 75 years. I live near Vancouver BC Canada, I recall especially hot summer days in the 80's the real pollution (btw Co2 in not a pollutant) would create a yellowish, brownish haze that would hang in the sky throughout the Fraser Valley. Over the last 20 or so years, I've never seen such crap in the sky. This is with knowing near twice as many motor viehicles on our roads and highways. Yes well apart from the destruction of the environment for the materials needed to make EV's there are so many other "hidden" aspects such as the pollution form the specially made tyres which wear faster than normal ICE vehicles tyres do and the problem of disposing of the EV especially the battery when the EV is either written off or simply wears out. Not forgetting the danger that lithium ion battery fires evolve extremely toxic and explosive gases, and the toxic debris left over from that fire. It is well known that such toxic materials from these fires can cause life changing disabilities or death on immediate exposure up to days, months or years after that exposure. The cost of this toxic damage could cost in obscene amounts of money to the health system and hence the countries' economy, and one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to know who is going to foot that bill!!

What you put in the tank goes straight into the atmosphere, you may as well just go down the beach and tip diesel fuel on the sand, so you don’t think a oil spill is a catastrophe , millions of cars trucks billions of litres of oil every day use some common sense, smell the coffee

That’s actually 100% correct. V6 diesel superstretch extremely efficient. We have done all the logistics and research shows EV win , LPG is possible, blot on in wheel battery accessory all possible but EV still wins on numbers

The neanderthal attitudes to EVs in Australia are funny - Australia is so backwards. It's surprising considering Australia could benefit more from EVs than just about any country on the planet - it has world leading solar, world leading wind generation potential, the worlds largest deposits of lithium, world leading battery companies, rare earth minerals, and even graphine for new battery tech. A Tesla just drove 13,543km around Australia in just ten days, and instead of paying $3000 (what it would cost to do the trip with petrol), it cost just $300. But apparently backwards Australians think you can't do long trips.

Australians who want to travel within the country and do, are not so easily impressed with the EVangelist Tesla trip around Australia as Evangelists are. You can do that trip in an old ICE 2wd sedan if you're really keen. Your Tesla will never do a poopteenth of the internals of this country. It wont do Cape York, it wont do the Simpson, it wont do the Canning stock route etc etc. Hell it couldn't even traverse through the Victorian high country. You need real 4x4 vehicles to get to some places in this country. You need modified 4x4s to get to more. Your story of $300 for the whole trip is also bullshit. You've taken a Melbourne to Perth leg of a previous around Australia trip and applied it to the most recent. Melbourne to Perth is not all the way around Australia.

@@erroneouscode The number of people crossing the Simpson Desert is so small, that at current rates it would take 2500 years for Australians to do it an average of once each. The idea that EVs are no good if they can't do everything, is as stupid as the idea we shouldn't have sedan cars, or small cars, if they can't do everything, or that we shouldn't have 4x4 trucks, because they're impractical in the inner city.
@erroneouscode

@@davidwall8954 I would say the number of people trying to do laps of Australia in 10 hours or otherwise while planning everything to the poopteenth degree including calling ahead to make sure a charge is available to achieve it is far fewer than that, and even more stupid of an idea. Yet it impresses EVangelists. Yet it can be done by any 2wd ICE vehicle without all the BS and fanfare and accolades. Someone shuffling across the Nullabor in gumboots can be done too, but it's even less practical than driving EVs long distance. Some people choose to have vehicles that 'can' do everything asked of them no matter how rarely they may go further than their local shopping center. Whatever floats your boat. What do you have to say about being called out on the $300 for the around Australia trip?
@davidwall8954
@davidwall8954 17 дней назад
@@erroneouscode You'll have to argue the $300 cost with the people who did the drive. They charged each night at their accommodation, who often let EVs charge for free, or for a token amount. (even if the battery was right at zero, which is unlikely, a full charge on a cheap overnight rate of 20c Kw is only $12 to have a full "tank" in the morning.)
