Marine seismic surveys help us to understand the geological structure beneath the oceans, including possible oil and gas deposits. However, the noise that they produce may negatively impact animals living nearby. To address some of these concerns prior to their own seismic survey, Geoscience Australia supported research to monitor and mitigate potential impacts to key species. In this presentation, we describe the long, sometimes bumpy, always interesting road that started with this research and has now positioned GA as a trusted and unbiased advisor on seismic impacts to a variety of stakeholders.
